I'm looking at the Stainless Works Headers w/ cats and H Pipe. Does anyone in the Socal area have this setup installed that I can check out? I know a few of you have their headers and exhaust but don't remember seeing anyone mentioned they also have the cats. The Stainless Works website describes it as a metal matrix cat, but didn't specify how many cells are in the cat, and I only know of high flow cats by the cell count. Does anyone have any information? I know I can email and ask them on Monday but that would be almost 3 days away and I can always count on the members here to point me to the right direction in about 3 minutes:banana. Here's a picture off of Stainless Work's website:

Hi Bruce

I have the system on my gal; in fact I worked with Stainless Works to complete their design by designing the thermal expansion system, the custom H pipe, and the baffles that they offer

Then add to this I have installed several sets; all but one with the small metal bed cats.

Call or PM me and I will answer all of your questions

Its a nice system,I just put it in my car and everything fit nicely.......its loud but that's how I like it.Joe

I too installed the Stainless Works headers with cats. Yea, it's loud and I love it--the way these gals should sound. No problem with installation (that is with the generous help of the Shadowman). Passed Tennessee Emisions last month. Now she sounds as wicked as she looks.

Just a piece of information that may help you if you get the system, the tips are different, there is a left and a right. As far as the cats go try the Random Tech website.

JOETWINT and Road Racer,
Did you guy also install Shadowman's baffles in the tip as both of you say the system is very loud? I have the Xpipes now but my cat has gone bad so instead of just replacing the cats, I'm now thinking of getting the headers and high flow cats with ceramic coating to reduce the heat a little. I am reluctant to move away from the Xpipe as to my ears, it sounds just about PERFECT - quiet when cruising and can wake the dead at WOT, and strangely, after the Whipple install, the little drone that was there became even qieter. I just want to make sure whichever system (with cats) I end up with won't have too much drone, especially within the freeway cruising RPM of 2000 to 3000 RPM.

Bill,
I've always admire your work and the baffles are the convincing factor in the Stainless Works setup for me. I went on Stainless Works' website but didn't see them mention the baffles, do the baffles come with the system or are they an optional item? Also would you recommend thermal coating for the entire system?

No baffles .....yet. I have not had the chance to drive it much.

Same here--no baffles. Love the sound as is. But then maybe my ears are a little deadened due to too many hours in race cars.

Shadowman,

How would you compare the sound of stainless works to a cat back system such as Heffner? Seems to me a true set of headers like the stainless works system would have a more "tuned" sound. However, I don't want to get "race car" loud on the street.

Also, with the Stainless works system, is this strictly bolt on and go or do you have to remap the fuel injection?

Thanks,
