Spoke w/ Whipple re a 2.7 pulley only & they stated a smaller diam. belt (which of course they sell) is required for said pulley...

Am i to assume everyone that did a 2.7 & tune changed belts too??

Most did not. It's believed that the 2.7" pulley will place the idler at or near its (wear) limit but not beyond. I would prefer a smaller belt.

I just did the 2.7 pulley and tune (Heffner) I purchased from Dave (DBK) and did not replace the Belt. Should I have? Seems very tight useing original Belt. Tomy Hamon

Tomy,

Not necessary, I did the 2.7 pulley and tune thing a year and half ago, used the old belt, and she runs STRONG - NO SLIP. Put about 12,000 miles on it with this set up so far - no problems.

I did not change mine and most don't . There is a slightly smaller pulley that does require a change. I think most people went with the 2.7 because it's an easy swap and no belt change is required...

Like above you can get away with the 2.7 and no belt change.

Thats what I like and have learned to accept FAST SERVICE. Thank you gentlemen. Tomy

Ran 2.7 with stock belts for 10,000 miles. No problems.

Thanks for the response guys, Whipple said it really should be done but I thought it odd that Heffner wasn't offering a belt w/ their tune/pulley....

Interesting though, the Whipple 2.7 pulley is anodized black and considerably more co$t effective....

In the long run - a pulley is a pulley... right???

Has anyone run just a Whipple pulley on stock snout / charger?

I did but I'm not sure about the "more cost effective" part.

We were actually the first to offer the pulley, the first to offer an upgrade kit. Were also one of the only ones with the belt available. Ideally, belt should be changed, but you can get away with the stock one. You can also use some shims to kick out the power steering pump.

The pulley should be anodizied, as its being pressed on an already knurled shaft. Bare aluminum will be a bit looser and has a higher possibility of coming loose. Have yet to see this happen, but possible.

Thanks,
Dustin

Forgot to mention, the belt seems tight because of the tensioner, but if you look at tensioner stop, there's nearly zero travel left, so when the belt stretches, especially during hard running, you can get some slip. So tight is a bad way of describing the belt, should have approx. .75"-1.0" of room from tensioner stop.
