Just a couple of comments............ Although I do not race this car, It is not my stile to modify it for less performance, hence I spent considerable time devising this exhaust to look good, sound good and perform good. I wanted to fill up the exhaust holes with a pipe that looked like it belonged on a Ford GT. The loudness of open pipes, while novel once in a while, did not sit well with Mrs. Beach-GT. Packing muffler material in the tips of pipes is not as effective as placed further up the system in an enclosed tube or box. Never the less there are not many options available in such a short system as we have. I searched the market for something usefull to no avial. I came up with the idea of the removable inserts as a trade off for loud when I want to play and not so loud when I wanted to go somewhere with Mrs Beach-GT. To my surprise the dyno tests I ran demonstrated that the un-packed inserts boosted the performance over the straight open pipes and also helped reduce some of the sound. When the inserts are used without packing, hot exhaust gasses flow around the outer skin of the pipe and cool down. Central gasses flow through the center of the pipe and are directed into the cooler gasses through the slits in the inner pipe. This mixing process reduces the sound out the tail end but not the flow since I designed the cross sectional area equal to a 3 inch open pipe. This is covered in a patent and I bought the inner pipes from the patent holder to use with his permission in my system. If packing is added, I use stainless steel wool, The flow is somewhat reduced, but the sound is greatly mellowed out and the performance is still better than with the stock muffler. www.fordgtexhaust.com I have two sets left and when I sell these off I am taking this site down. I mainly built this system for myself and had to buy a few sets of laser cut parts to make it practical. I'm not interested in making and marketing these things so when the last two go....that's it. The second to last system is ceramic coated silver like mine and the last is still bare stainless steel and can be used bare or coated any Hot Jet Coat color. The ceramic seems to help reduce heat radiation. They could be wraped with ceramic tape as well. I ran that way for a while when I was testing but settled on the ceramic coat for looks. One guy who bought a set cut the ends off his Ford racing exhaust system and welded flanges on to accept my pipes. He needed the sound reduction to pass the track sound limit. I figured this would also work with the Ford long tubes that match up to the racing muffler. I have not bought a set of those to try it. I'm sure the sound would be pretty loud because you lose the sound reduction in the CATs. Mrs. Beach-GT would probably not approve. Anyway it's fun to experiment so feel free to use any of these ideas in making something even better. :wink
