Does anyone have the dimensions or photo of the power steering pump shims used with the FRPP pulley kit? I found this install document for the kit, but it doesn't have any photos of the parts. Is it four washers, or two pieces? What do the larger holes look like to clear the alignment dowels?

The installation PDF file for the FRPP Power Upgrade Kit (M-2005-GT) is located at

They are washers and are placed between the pump and the engine block -

2 shim washers are 11 mm ID
2 shim washers are 8.26 mm ID

The larger diameter shims are for the alignment dowel bolts.

Addition of the shims would seem prudent for all pulley replacements. What is the thickness? Are the shims available seperately?

They were included in the kit, and didn't have a separate part number. I don't recall the thickness - and they are installed and prevent a measurement. Perhaps someone has an uninstalled kit and can measure the washers for you.

Edit - I just looked in the kit box, and there were 3 extra washers - thickness of 0.156"

Thanks Ralph!

You can get the shims from Kenny Bell also!!!:thumbsup

I wonder if they were included on the Heffner kit? I did not un-install any shims when I put the whipple on my car.

*sign* I guess I'll go have a look now.

When the GTGuys put my Heffner pulley on - there were no shims on the PS pump... and when I put the Whipple on - no PS shims either..... reading the instructions above they take up the slack of the smaller pulley which is why with the Whipple no shims were used as there was a new belt...

BTW - never noticed belt slip with the Heffner and no shim's.........

To the best of my knowledge, only the FRPP and the now-discontinued KB snout system were the only kits to include the shims. In fact, the KB kit came with two sets of shims and 5 pulleys. Of the 5 pulleys, if you go smaller than the mid-size pulley, you were instructed to use the larger, (thicker) shims.

Because only these two kits offered shims, I suspect that most pulley upgrade installs are "shim-less". Despite this few, if any, have reported belt slipping issues - which is really the only consequence of being shim-less.

The Whipple solutions include their own belt along with an idler pulley to bring the OEM tensioner back into it's OEM position. If your car had shims prior to going to the Whipple, it really wouldn't matter if they were left in place or not. The range of adjustability of the Whipple's idler pulley would easily accomodate either configuration.
