I have on order a very special car as some of you may know, a white 918. I have been patiently waiting for it and it is due in the May timeframe. I received a call from PCNA with a special option for me which is I have been invited to go to the Porsche factory in Stuttgart Germany and participate in building my car on the line at the end of next week. The cars are on the production line for about 4 days if you can believe it and really the car takes shape the last two days. I was given an exact time (12:45pm) to be there. So German!!! Its last minute and but I am going to do it. I know one other person who did it and they said it was literally a once in a lifetime experience. They walked with the car did some easy stuff and got the back room of the tour and the Porsche Museum. I have my plane tickets booked and I have my agenda set for the day on the line and in the museum and then a special lunch with a Porsche executive in their VIP dining room.

I know that this is GT forum but we are all car guys here and I thought I would share as I am super excited. Supposedly pictures, videos etc. are all allowed so I will be getting as much as I can as I am there. I will be gone a total of 80 hours from my house and spend most of it traveling on a plane for 8 hours of joy but in my mind its well worth it. My wife actually understands. Kind of made me a little suspicious to be honest:eek

I ll be sure to post pics etc.

And if you will have me I will bring my 918 and maybe another car to the rally this year.

Wow. The 918 is without a doubt something special. Congrats on the purchase and well done on picking up at a moments notice to see its birth. Congrats.

Once-in-a-lifetime for sure! ( Especially the understanding wife. )

Glad you can seize the opportunity, and congratulations on the purchase, That's a serious commitment for some serious hardware.

Please bring it to the Rally. That will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many/most of us.

Amazing David. Can't wait for the pics and summary!

That's awesome! You will definitely not regret making that trip! Definitely once-in-a-lifetime stuff.

Once in alive time opportunity, Congratulations Dave. Do take a lot of pictures. Happy for you Dude.

That s awesome! Cant wait to see the pictures and hear all about it!

I drove a 918 for about thirty min. It is so insane and amazing in terms of performance, I hesitate to even call it a 'car'..
It is more of an alien ship.

Congrats and well done. Amazing trip planned. Enjoy

Wow! Have your cake and build it too.

Congrats. Of all the three recent supercars the 918 is hands down my favorite.

The museum is one of if not the best in Europe. Makes Ferrari's looks like a two car garage... You will see so many great cars - the line up of 917's, 911's and a whole mix of the Porsche racing lineage ..... Seinfeld has 4-5 cars stored there that I know of. I spent hours there alone...

Cant wait to see and hear about the trip!

I have driven the 918 on the track and on the street already. I have driven almost every car out there that is humanly possible and I can tell you it is the best car I have ever driven on the track and on the street for what it is. It is comfortable, mechanical, raw, exciting, calm and out of control all in one.

I will take great pics and video and post.

I am planning to bring it to the Rally this year.

Any thoughts on what do in Stuttgart for the later afternoon and evening I will be there without an agenda would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I have retuned from my visit and all I can say is I am more impressed with Porsche and the 918 then I was before.

Pics and a more detailed write up coming.

I can tell you that Porsche is a very special company and the 918 is hand built by unbelievable technicians in a facility that is just overwhelming.

Did they tell you the story why the exhaust outlet had to be changed ?

No they did not. I heard it was because it was to move the heat away from the battery which is mounted on the bottom of the car. Is that true or is there something more to it.

The Story I heard was that there were too much black exhaust particles floating over the real spoiler, and owners which have chosen a light body color would not like it. So it was decided to increase the angle a bit towards the Sky. At least that is what I have been told by a good friend who does business with the porsche engineering guys and also owns a white 918.

Thought it was because a couple had caught fire whilst refuleing?
