oil filter part # ?

OK, I'm confused. Ran in to this before. Why is the list price on the stuff I have gotten from Ford different than the list price shown for some of the others? Isn't Ford list FORD LIST?

Am I getting hosed with a higher price? Because I am getting the parts from where I bought the car, I get 10 percent off, but I am still paying more than the $33.56 LIST ($41.95 minus $4.92). (No, I usually don't buy OEM, but have for a couple of the GT items).

????????????????????

AZ, yes, hosed is the correct term.

OK, the hose has been identified. :eek

Learned a new thing from my friendly Ford dealer. List is not necesarily list.

Turns out many of the local guys use something called matrix pricing. Apparently with that format you can pay 120 - 125 percent of list for the pieces. There was something about the more you buy, the less the hose job. :bs

Wow, and I thought I knew how to buy parts. :confused

So, local guys in the Phoenix area, I will find out who the hosers and nonhosers are (gee maybe a new word - I like that - nonhoser). :banana

Filter Equality

Bony - As a typical advocate of using strictly OEM fluids and Ford parts in our GT's I have purchased both the Motorcraft FL-2024 and the Mann HU925/4X filters. The Mann filter is identical in "fit, form and function" to the Motorcraft filter down to the plastic bag packaged large O-ring and copper washer. I am almost certain the Motorcraft filter is just a repackaged (and repriced) Mann filter. I used the Mann in my most recent oil change without difficulty or operational problems. Because of this equality in function and significant cost delta (for the identical filter) I plan to use the Mann filters.

I do, however, agree all filters are not created equal. Thus I would be reluctant to use anything other than the Motorcraft or the identical Mann.

The parts guy may have looked up the plastic threaded cap and not the acutal filter. I priced one a while back and it was $ 300 +/ - some bucks?

Stormcat's right. I discovered the Mann filter part number while doing my first oil change on my '05. I pulled the Ford filter out of the box, saw that I had 3 other identicle filters on my shelf with the same part number for my BMW. The cost of the filters I had on my shelf was about $5, while the Ford filters were $32 (Not $380).

The filters I got from Ford have Mann and all of the Mann numbers on them so, yes, they are the same ones.
