Notice: A Massive Canadian Military Charity "Ultimate Performance" Event!! Aug 24-25

Thank-You very much to the Ford GT Forum Moderator...For allowing us to post a little info about our spectacular charity event!

Who: The Canadian Forces 4 Wing Cold Lake in association with ZR Exotics
What: Race the Base 2012
When: August 24-25, 2012
Where: 4 Wing Cold Lake Airbase - The most active Canadian Military Airbase - Key part of the NORAD air defense network
Why: To raise needed funding for active and veteran Military Families

If you want to explore the limits of your street -legal car and can afford to support a worthy charity, all the way up in Cold Lake, Alberta Canada, then we would love to have you attend and/or compete in our spectacular event.

For the Ford GT community, it could be a matter of marque pride as in the inaugural 2010 Top-Speed event, a Nitrous fed GT ran over 350Kph/217mph in adverse weather conditions (gusting cross wind) - the fastest speed recorded at the event.

New for Race the Base 2012
  • 5 Competitor Vehicle Classes
  • 5 Performance Challenges
  • Fantastic Prizes for Class winners
  • More CF18 Fighter Jet Challenge Races TBD

This year, the addition of a Side by Side Standing Mile will really heat up the marque rivalry. The Ultimate Top Speed challenge will return using the full length of the 2.5 mile main runway with a 2 mile acceleration zone! A new and very exciting addition is the dual road course "Time Attack" flying lap challenge. Also new is the optional "Wet Drift" course, and the optional Smokey "Freestyle burn-out" contest - both fan favorites as they really get an up-close view of the action and can really see and hear and feel the raw power.

Friday the 24th is a full training and dry-run day for competitors with professional instructors including Roland Linder Chief instructor from the World Class Driving School
Saturday the 25th is the main competition day. Expect non-stop driving and action all day. Special events peppered into the itinerary are CF-18 Fighter Jet Race challenges against select competitor cars. (Contestants may enter a charity bid on the day to earn a race and/or select class contestants may be offered the opportunity - exact format/method TBD)
Sunday the 26th is an alternate competition day should adverse weather interrupt the event.

The competitor vehicle rules are very minimal - but we do stress appropriate safety measures. Check out the competitor section of the site for more details. Also watch the growing competitor roster here!

Sounds like a blast .. It's a long way from South Florida !!

it took me 2 miles to hit 225 mph on GPS out in AREA 51 with a mere 751 rwhp. i wish i lived closer to Canada i would for sure race my GT at this event if i did....

It's even quite a hump from N Idaho but looks like a fun drive. Are the speeding laws in Canada as harsh as I have been told?

The ones in BC and Ontario are as harsh as you're told.

Looks like time to dust off the trailer then.

You would only be in BC for a short time then once in Alberta the laws are pricey but not ridiculous. Another way is up through Montana which as I understand it can be like North Americas answer to the Autobahn in areas.

I spent entirely tooooo much time debating the merits of taking my TT to this event with my wife and Pro. :willy:willy

................I may weaken and take a trip.........dare I say it............NORTH??? :lol

I just wanted to chime in and say that if you are considering the event...you won't be disappointed. The main runway is 12,500 ft long! The second parallel runway is 10,000 feet long.
The base is huge and the over-all event is a huge public spectacle in the area, rather than just a gear-head only event. Race the Base replaces an annual airshow at the base, and as such
it gets the same crowds that would have attended the airshow...and more...
The area where the base is located is in the heart of lake country...forests, fishing, camping...just plain beautifull! - think northern Michigan... Plan on staying a couple days to have some R&R in the vicinity.

Driving up thru Montana is preferable as the highways are completely uncluttered. BC highways are beautiful, but their policing is a little over-zealous...
Alberta's highways are excellent, but you will want to stay off the main QE2 north as it is heavily policed. You should take any number of secondary highways and work your way North-East
through the center of the province. Trust me...you can make very good time with minimal policing. Just watch when going through small towns....
If anyone needs any specific info/insight...feel free to shoot me an email: [email protected]
Thanks,
Trev

so what was the fastest speed?

382 kph Turbo Supra...
367 kph Ford GT

More speeds to be posted this week.. all recorded speeds..

^^^ BOTH Dom's (930shark) cars. Supes lost the intercooler pipe about 1/3 of the way into the run, or it woulda been over 400. GT lost it's whipple belt, they got a new one on, but ran the car WITHOUT NOS. Dom got a CEL about 1/2 way down and shut er down. Or he'd have been over 400 in that one too. By the way, the GT sounded AMAZING!!! Absolutely amazing!!!

As stated above, Dom got a Check Engine Light half way down the runway (so about 1 mile in), and so shut down his run. He planned to do a 2nd run with NOS but that was if he could sort the CEL problem. As far as I know he never did that 2nd run.
