Newbie Dreamer Advice needed.

(I would really like to buy a used one, pay cash, drive it for a year or so, and resell it.)

I am surpised that no one has mentioned you might be in the wrong group here if that is your idea.

Most of the guys here really like the car and have no plans on resale. If you resell it, what is there that would replace it?

If you have an answer for that question, my guess is that you have not driven one yet, or should probably buy that car instead.

If you get a GT, better plan on cancelling the resale idea - probably won't happen. So the question is can you stand to live with a GT? (yes, life is tough, isn't it).

I had got rather confused between www.renotahoerooms.com and the one for rent a ho.com and the Chevy Tahoe rental.

No wonder the girl at Hertz looked offended.

Too funny! And Piccola posts about hauling a matress around in the back of her Tahoe! :lol

(No offense to one of the sweetest and most revered members of the board!)

Ah, sweet Piccola...

My glass shall not persuade me I am old,
So long as youth and thou are of one date;
But when in thee time's furrows I behold,
Then look I death my days should expiate.
For all that beauty that doth cover thee,
Is but the seemly raiment of my heart,
Which in thy breast doth live, as thine in me:

PS: Not often that Shakespeare is quoted on the Forum....

Sorry Empty P, I forgot to include a translation of the Sonnett to Picolla:

I’m checkin’ out my mirror – and I’m looking alright.

You and me is da same age in our hearts man – we’re youngsta’s in da hood.

I got me a couple of wrinkles in me forehead

I’m guessin’ I’m gonna die one day

But you is one bootiful chic

I love what yoooz wears, it’s all good innit?

Ya heart lives wiv my heart.

Keepin’ it real.

I do hope this helps.

What on earth has this got to do with the thread or indeed in GT's in particular? I've absolutely no idea. Sorry!

And, "FYI", I have no clue at all
what this has to do with the thread either... but, since it violates no federal law I'm aware of, "what th' hey"...

Neil, they are a perfect set, can't break up the gross...
(if I had an extra, I would gladly gift it to you, I don't profit from my friends)

Dear flienlow,

What you are describing is lust, not love. Love has no ending date. Sometimes an end occurs, but not before the romance even starts. I too want to pull the trigger on a GT. I don't intent to sell it. Ever. It is also an investment from this point forward. If you paid 200K plus to own one early, you could afford the dance and probably don't consider the expense as more than a cost of doing business.
I can't shake the car out of my mind and I think maybe a year or two will provide opportunities to buy one at a better price, so I will try to buy a 2000 R in the meantime to scratch the itch. It will be a fleeting and futile scratch but hopefully time will pass before I bite the bullet.
The bullet will taste sweet. Anyone want a 66 327 corvette and cash for a dark blue or tungsten?

I agree with you to a point. There is probably a lot of lust involved, and like you I cant shake it out of my head either. What is really odd is that I am not a car lover to the point where I would purchase something this expensive. Who knows, maybe I watched too much speed racer as a kid? I just went to a local dealer and looked at one. It is far better in person than in pictures that is for sure. It also sounds like we are both rowing a similar boat. If the GT was under a hun, this wouldn’t be an issue for me. As it sits, if I want one, I will need to strip all of my rentals of their equity and go buy it. The good part about that is I can still cash flow the properties, and even get a tax deduction by owning the GT! Bad part is that I would be all in on this poker game. 99% on this board have me beat financially for sure, but this is my Mt.Everest of sorts. Perhaps a way of telling myself that cleaning out 5-gallon buckets of piss with dead fish in it from my rentals, and all the other bullshit I put with has been worth it.
With all that said, the simple underlying fact is that it would not be feasible at this for me to keep the GT. I also don’t think I could buy something else in place of it either. It wouldn’t be the same.
Is it so bad that I want to treat myself for a bit?
For the time being, I am looking at it like the airplane I rent. I can go out and rent a beautiful new 350k Cessna 182. Glass cockpit, leather, it’s posh! I fly it to Roach Harbor, WA in the San_Juan Islands which is breath takingly beautiful, have dinner and fly home. For about $220.00 I get to play millionaire for a couple of hours and then return the plane without all the headaches ownership.
Fear not, one day I will be able to keep it forever!

A penny for your thoughts?

Your opening comments are interesting as they are similar to those I have heard from far too many for years.

I can still remember my first Ferrari and having folks say “damn it must be nice” to which I finally started pointing to the Prancing Horse on her nose and would say “no you are missing the boat as the name says Ferrari not Shadowman” he built the cars; it is his name on her nose and they are accessible for who ever wants them. It is simply a matter of how much one wants any given item, some spend there time on there sofa dreaming, sitting in the bar, imbibing their favorite means of relaxation, while others simply put their clothes on every day and thrash through the myriad of obstacles presented to all of us on any given day and create their own destiny.

Now this in no way diminishes the fact that for many it is very hard whereas for others it seemingly comes easy nevertheless converting ones dream into reality will forever be up to the individual in the very same way as one’s dream will forever be their own.

Your assessment of the gals as being fricken stunning is spot on and as for whether we will all awake tomorrow with their value being in the toilet is any ones guess however I suspect that most did not purchase nor do they own these gals because of what they might be worth but rather because they complete for them one of their dreams.

I would say that if this is your dream and you have the means then pull the trigger and enjoy the ride but I would also say that if owning her is to become a cause for financial pressure then forgo it for the time being. Never would I encourage leveraging oneself emotionally or financially regarding such a decision if profit at the end is even a consideration. I always say that it cost to play and in this arena it can become very expensive very quickly. I lived through and owed exotic gals during their hay day and then I also lived and owned them through some of the darkest moments and when I reflect back I have absolutely “NO” regrets.

Work hard and smart always with a short term carrot in front of you and a long term goal and before you know it you will experience your dream. Sadly most people loose focus and begin living as if in a whirlpool or state of flux and never find their way out.

I know of more than one on this board that make LARGE monthlys to own this car. There are also many on this board that quite frankly if I had their money, I'd burn mine. Funny thing about talking with both, passions for this car seem to be very close to equal regardless of financial position or sacrifices made to own it.
No one should tell you to take out a loan but it is an option.

Good luck! Steve

Dear flienlow,

My thoughts. You seem to be a person who has taken risks in your life to move forward. Bless you and keep moving forward in your indeavers. Please don't compromise your hard work because of a car.
In the mid-late 70's I was going to own a dodge Omni. I was a teenager. Think for a minute. Gas was high. The economy was unstable. My family was not of the capacity to be buying new cars. Instead, I moved to another state to finish high school because in-state higher education was a better deal.
I am shopping for a GT. I will most likely buy a GT. It will be on my terms and at my discretion. Cost is a major consideration because the money I spend on this car will not be available for any other purchases in the household for a long period of time.
Didn't buy the omni and don't regret it. Can buy the GT and won't regret it. Please don't compromise your long term goals for a short term obsession. One year from now there will be fine GT's for sale with low miles. Re-evaluate when you can write the check.
I don't mean to offend anyone, but in the high end car market, buyers remorse is easier to swallow if you already took the pill.

Thanks,

Steve

My philosophy is to only borrow money for those these you believe will appreciate faster than the interest you are paying! I GT is not a likely candidate. Follow this philosophy, work hard and smart, invest in yourself and your future. It seem like you are doing those thing now, why change? Then a GT, or whatever car tickles your fancy will be chump change down the road.
