Here is my new exhaust system. It was designed to closely match the original GT-40. My bumper setup is under construction.

I am designing several new pieces to make the rear of the car look more complete. Any comments, positive or negative would be appreciated. I will see some of you there! Thanks, Jay www.gtsaver.com (949) 366-1211

I know you are looking for commentary on the exhaust itself. It looks very distinctive and unique. Looking forward to seeing it tomorrow.

Also, unrelated, but you have some substantial vignetting in the corners of your photograph. Is that the proper lens hood for that lens?

SYCO,

Yeah, I was fooling around with my new version of PTLens. I guess I got carried away with the manual vignetting effect!

See you tomorrow! Jay

Where does the license plate go?

Where does the license plate go?

Right now, where the pipes originally came out. I may redesign all of the perforated sections in the rear with emphesis on a nice looking, hidden illumination, plate holder.

How about an audio clip?

Heat issues for the spoiler?

I Like It

Jay,

I Like It Very Much !!:thumbsup

Have been thinking about this very same idea for a few months now.

Looks more like the original GT40's than the current systems.

I agree, it will need all new perforated mesh sections.

Sound? How do you feel it compares to the Accufab unit.

Same or louder?

LOUD GOOD - DRONE BAD

Please keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks,

Fred

Jay, looks very nice, but how about some nice, double-walled chrome tips? As an option? Next advice, get a RED car to showcase!

Hi Fred,

I think that the sound has slightly more "crackle" (harmonics) at high RPM's when you jump on it hard. I have eliminated all drone due to the design. It has no audible resonances. I must disclose that I do not have my bellypan and diffuser on the car, so I must be careful about making claims. It is fairly loud when you step on it, especially at higher RPM's, as there is no intentional baffling! I am able to keep it resonably quiet by driving "lightly". I may design some cone baffles that will fit between cat and exhaust flange. Since I want to minimize backpressure, I would test some new ideas using a flow bench.

At the rally, we can put this side by side with an Accufab and record the results. I would expect the loudness to be similar to Accufab. My exhaust is an X pipe that was optimized for best theoretical performance.

Externally, I will make as close as possible the original GT40 system. Another note, is that I have a much greater clearance between the exhaust pipe and the air intake box compared to other systems out there.

Frank,

That's a good idea. I should look into that.

Now, where do I find a red car, especially one with an engine light...

Thanks, Jay

Jay I think the ass of your gal is looking "sweet"

Considering that we chatted as you were working through the process it is very nice to see that your plan is coming together as you wanted

All the best

Jay,

Let's do it.

Got Accufab on mine, so mine can be your sound comparison "test mule".

The look you are developing is my desired goal.

Also, if you get the pans and all on before the Rally, I would much like to go for a ride, so as to hear the harmonics from the cabin.

Looking forward to seeing you at the Rally.

Good point about the diffuser and belly pan being removed Jay!

I had some initial faint resonance at a specific and very narrow RPM range when my aftermarket (af) exhaust first went on.

But, Shadowman and the GT Guys diligently helped track it down and shimmed the rear diffuser...

Now, all I get are thumbs up from the outside onlookers, and good conversation and compliments on the sound from the inside passengers...

I'll be honest here... to me it looks like the exhaust is coming out where the license plate should be (I know that’s obvious). I mean that the section where you have the exhaust coming out needs to be further modified to compliment the pipes. The shape of the exit still looks too rectangular.

I like the pipe extension. If I had the tools and skill to complete a project like this I think I would put the exhaust down low again but maybe run 4 pipes out the back.

Just my 2 cents.

sorry Jay, have to agree with my bondsman.

This was Jay's first fitting to confirm (as I recall him sharing) that he was happy with the pipe design from a sound standpoint etc

I too shared the same concern about the license plate exit point situation and he has that as part of the design too; he simply has not had the time to complete all of the details.

I suspect that once he calls the project a wrap it will appear very well integrated.

Thumbs Up Jay for defining your dream because at the end of the day this is all that matters. It would be far too easy if we all remained within the proverbial box.

Keep the progress pictures coming

Takes care

KEEP GOING JAY!!.

I can visualize the end results.

New GTsaver exhaust bracket!

Gentlemen:

Thanks for all of the input so far. I guess that I am going to have to sharpen up my PhotoShop skills!

Here is a rendering of my new exhaust bracket. It fit perfectly the first time! I have to perform some stress and fatigue analysis on it before anymore head to the machine shop:
Exhaust%20bracket%20ISO.jpg

Some features include:

1. Machined from solid 6061-T6 stock. All corners are radiused to minimize "stress-risers". The material and/or design is subject to change depending on outcome of fatigue analysis.

2. Designed for proper +/- adjustment with respect to the normal factory positioning.

3. Designed in "flexure joint" to compensate for thermal expansion/contraction. This mimics the stock bracket design.

4. Bracket fits under the cat flanges to allow full support of cats while working on vehicle if exhaust system is removed.

5. Custom lettering or logo can be engraved into several surfaces!

6. Should be compatible with almost any make of aftermarket exhaust system. This bracket is useful for those that wish to roll-your-own exhaust system or if you are not happy with your present bracket design.

7. Super lightweight, weighs only 1 pound!

More to come. Thanks, Jay

Yes, I can see an injury suit after the first person burns themselves on the tips! Remember this is the good old USA where attorneys can make a fortune on people's stupidity. Look at the money that John Edward made, or the lady who spilled Mc Donald's coffee on her lap.

I am sure DOT specs have a height limitation on exhaust pipes.
