Need help with sticky shifter

Both the OEM shifter and the Ford Racing shifter are anodized blue.
 
I am having problems with my shifter now also. When the cable is disconnected the shifter moves without restriction and the transmission linkage moves with very little effort also. The cable itself takes some effort to move... problem identified. Now I just need the cable and it sounds like I may need a "tool" to adjust linkage per Ford? Any more helpful suggestions from folks have gone down this road would be appreciated.

I can email pictures - please provide an email. The stock shifter has threaded points for the adjustment tool, this shifter does not.
