Napa to Vegas?

Whenever we are near the west coast, we always make sure we take a side trip to wine country. Planning to do that prior to the Rally. Had so much fun with the GT in Sonoma last year, am thinking of shipping it to CA rather than Vegas, and driving from Napa to Vegas at the end of our wine days.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what would be an interesting and/or fun route to take with the GT? I think I would take two days, as my long distance driving days are over.

Any of you NorCal folks who might be interested in such a trip, chime in.

Thanks.

I am planning on a straight through drive the Sunday before so we can pre-Rally in the Vegas area on Monday. I drive in CA all the time so I want to try some of the cool roads around Vegas my friends always tell me about. But if you are not from CA then don't come with us. Especially if you have time to do it in 2 days.

Here is my recommendation:

I always enjoy the drive down the PCH/Hwy 1 from Napa, through SF, Monterey/Carmel, Big Sur with an overnight stop around Paso Robles on Hwy 101. Paso Robles has fantastic wineries & some B&Bs. Probably second only to Napa for various reds.

Then day 2 over to I-5 (you will go through the intersection where James Dean died) through Bakersfield then Mojave to I-15. Turn north & head into Vegas. Yes, day 2 is not as fun as day 1 but you do skip SoCal traffic. If you had a 3rd day you could go through SoCal along the coast into San Diego. Overnight there & head east then I-15 N.

PM if you want more info w.a.
