Just returned from a 2 day Ford Racing school at Miller Motorsports Park. Top drawer facility and personnel as we learned at Rally 6 (thanks again, DBK!).

A reminder to those who purchased a Boss, you NEED to do the event included with the price of your car. The program concludes in the fall, don't let it go by!!

I hope that Ford/SVT continues to utilize MMP in future vehicle programs!

Good for you Rex.. Fun stuff.

Did you happen to see a guy named Geoff there with his son?

Larry H Miller (and now his estate) are one of the big sponsors of the museum in Boulder (The Shelby American Collection). Miller trades cars between their museum and the collection in Boulder. It's great because neither site is totally stale.

For classes I've gone to Bondurant's school in Chandler. I did my first class there and "know the track" so can build on it. I get a class every year at the Shelby American Collection party as a donation to the museum so I get a world class class and make a difference in the place that has great cars.

I know that the group has had one of the annual events there, but most of them are too far for me to go, but Miller (and Bondurant, and the Las Vegas (Pahrump) track are an easy day's drive (all about 800 miles for me) so fit nicely into vacation schedules :)

Lil more fun than in a rental camaro?

You bet!!

And for the record, no Camaros were harmed during my 2 days at MMP...lol

Blue tape is your savior..... And 50-60 psi to keep the tires round....

I will certainly take your expertise in this area into consideration should the opportunity present itself. :biggrin

I too had the opportunity extended to me to experience the same Boss school described above by Rex.

Top notch program throughout and Ford is to be commended for providing this fantastic track exposure to Boss purchasers. I have talked to some owners who were ho-hum on paying their way out to Tooele to go to the one day school. They are missing out on a great opportunity both with the facility and instructors.

I know it was costly, but I hope DBK puts this location back into the rally location shuffle for a future event.

Any Boss fence sitters should really consider executing on this opportunity before it closes out this Fall.:thumbsup

Indy,

Tony Jacobs, who you helped talk into the Boss @ NOLA, is scheduled to do his class with his son in Sept. His son bought a matching Laguna Seca a couple months after Tony. Tony has already tracked his several times. He did have an issue with the transmission and ford replaced it last week. They really wanted to drive out and take the class in their own cars but decided just a bit to far. I am entertaining the idea of going with them as a guest. Sounds like lots of fun.

Great to hear from you Larry! And I still remember the look on your face at NOLA after riding in your new GT500 with Mr. McGowan. New tires be damned, it was the ride of a lifetime!

Sorry Tony never got out on the track in the Boss with Mark as it would have been equally exciting!

Glad he joined the Ford ownership ranks. And I think you should go out with them to MMP and go as a guest. Quite possibly rolling into a second day in their FR500 mustangs to continue the learing experience. It really is a good time with great people!

Would have loved to ... but had to buy second hand :wink

Is that your yellow Boss? Did you drive the FR500S? How did you like that compared to the Boss?

See ya

Oh, let's see..... perhaps memory fades as one gets older, but wasn't it just at NOLA where that pitiful bowtie thing laid waste to a certain Mustangl :rofl:rofl:rofl

No, that is a tri-coat yellow 2012 that is on loan to MMP from Ford. Mine is a 2013 SBY.

Loved the FR, reminds me of my '95 Cobra R. The FR is down about 100 hp from the Boss, but had much less weight (300-400 lbs from the feel of it). Big difference is in the tires with the FR's running BFG R1's ('DOT slicks'). Bosses at Miller are shod with BFG Comp 2's (treaded tire) vs. the stock Pirelli's, which seem to have better adhesion - that is, until they 'go off' -- I heat-cycled my tires out by the end of day 1 - not a good score on tire management.

Maybe that's the answer, let's find a place for an FR run-off to settle that score on who's faster..... :biggrin

Rex, As Anders and a few select others at NOLA know we have tired to do just that. A repeat gathering at NOLA to put either a contingent of FR500's together or together with a sprinkling of Bosses as well. Anders just needs to increase his transatlantic frequent flyer miles....

I agree with your comparative assessment of the two cars. I had my Boss on the track with two of NOLAs rental Mustangs last rally. The FR500 is obviously lighter but the tires on these cars at NOLA were not the greatest (and different than those used at Miller in their rentals). The Boss was shod with Pirelli P-Zero Corsa's which are pretty grippy (although I know Rocketman thinks they are junk). The FR500 was down in power relative to the Boss such that any ground lost in the turns was quickly regained on the straight away. It was great fun "racing" with the guys in the FR500's.

Perhaps a repeat again sometime. And now that Anders has a Boss here in Country......:thumbsup
