As several others have mentioned everyone has their own "style" and method of piloting these extremely capable rocket ships down the runway... My driving style for the Texas Mile was dictated by the setup we had at that event.
Car was not tuned to launch, had NO ABS, no traction control, no idle control motor or tuning, and was set up with stock transmission, gearing etc...
Here is what I did...
1. How to start (first gear, none spin) - easy launch of the line, rolling in the throttle so you don't spin the tires... spinning the tires will waste distance without maximum acceleration...
2. What shift points (Stock and modified) - short shifted 1st and 2nd in order to minimize wheel spin as much as possible and get into third, then 4th and 5th as soon as possible to let her run out the back door... shifted at 5500 - 6000 in early gears and 7000 in 3rd, 4th and run through the traps in 5th...
3. What gear to run thru the mile point (I was told 5th)
4. When thru the lights, stopping (This is where I am confused, do you immediately push in clutch and start braking, or let the engine help decelerate you as you brake) -
once you are through the mile marker (make sure you pull all the way through as Cody was letting out at the mile marker or so he thought but you have to go through the second set of beams like a drag strip and he was losing 5 mph)... let off the throttle leaving it in gear, let the car settle and then apply the brakes leaving it in gear to help slow down.. if you want to heel toe then go for it but honestly 5th gear won't lug the motor at 70 mph and you can make the turn at 60 mph if you have to so don't worry about shifting if you don't want to... leaving it in gear helps slow the car down immensely as well as the drag...
5. At what speed does Peak use the Chute? - CARBON BRAKES ROCK HAHA never needed the chute although we will test in Miami just incase...
That is just what worked for me... Hope that helps
