McIntosh CD

Does anyone know if the McIntosh head unit has CeNet and is compatiable with Clarion. I'm thinking a cd changer and a sirius radio adapter. Any info would be appreciated.

John

Dont think it has CeNet. Has some RCA inputs on the back for the AUX channel. I have a radio on the shelf at the shop. I will double check....

Thanks Shelby. Look to see if it has an optical input too.

Thanks,
John

John,

Your best option would be an aftermarket head unit. I seriously doubt that you'd find any acceptable place to mount a CD changer unless you're thinking about making it a single-seater. The aftermarket is full of stereos that have iPod and sirius capability. (FYI - the back of the Mac has RCA jacks which you can use as an iPod-in... although you will still need to use the iPod for song selection, etc.)

Someday in the not too distant future, our friend Kip is supposed to be coming out with a double-DIN CF center pod that would let you add a full-on video/nav unit with sirius, iPod, etc..

Thanks, but right now I really want to try and keep the Mac unit. I'm not totally sold on the CD changer (although it appears it could go in the front storage), but I would like the sirius radio. I've had it in almost all my cars and it's great.

JC, Mac makes a mating CD changer. Go to their website. No optical inputs, only RCA plugs for right and left.

I did, but they no longer show a cd changer.

Does anyone have a picture of the back of the McIntosh unit showing the connectors?

John

Sorry man, been busy. Will take a pic and post it tomorrow

John it is rather basic
The back has the following;
One solo plug with the OEM wiring interface
One antenna receptacle
One hardwired cable that goes to a blue connector above and behind the radio bezel that is awkward to get to
Two typical female RCA plugs with rubber boots over them and taped to the harness

I hope that this helps

Now FYI you can slide the radio out easily to access the RCA plugs

I will look for other pictures as I suspect that I have pictures from one of the project gals however in the meantime here is one picture of the female RCA connectors behind the head unit.

All the best

Yeah it does. This is what they have on the McIntosh site for a MX406.

Hi John

Thank you however the picture that you shared is "NOT" the back view of the OEM Ford GT Macintosh radio as installed in these gals; not even close.

Apparently Mac has finally upgraded the radio since they sold all the "old" units to Ford.

I just wanted to make clear to all that the picture of the rear as presented by John does not share what they would find if they remove their OEM head unit.

Now if this is the same style as the OEM unit with modern features I would be interested in upgrading the one in my gal; I need to dig deeper on this.

Thank you

actually the MacIntosh "rear end" from the FGT as Shadowman states looks like this....

You are D/A man; thank you

Thanks guys. I'm with you shadowman on the upgraded McIntosh MX 604. If you can get a lot more input functionality then I think it would allow you to put in a cd changer and even a sat radio. :cheers

Hi John

You are welcome and "thank you" John for finding and sharing the updated Macintosh head unit; your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Can you PM me the link to the new unit; I looked on Macintosh's website and was unable to locate it?

I would like to see the specifications and the new features.

All the best

Shadow and JC, I'm trying to attach a link. If it doesn't work, go to macintoshlabs.com and look for the car stereo downloads section. They still list the CD changer there, but looks like they have upgraded the head unit to much fancier.

Sorry, can't copy the links.
