Hi folks. Not that it's taken 2 years to make....although it has taken a considerable amount of time...but I've almost finished a photo book for the 2010 season that Matech participated in (and finished 2nd in) in the GT1 World Championship. The main reason for making the book is for myself, as all the images and story are currently stored in files and folders on my Mac, which doesn't do the Matech story justice for me.

As well as all of the best images from the 10 rounds of the championship, the book contains images from pre-season build and setup as well as car and driver photoshoots, all the press releases and drivers' quotes. Most of the best images I took were never put on the Matech website as I wanted to save them for this book, so there are a great many unseen photos, including some of the wrecked car from qualifying at Abu Dhabi. In any case, since the website is no longer running, those images are now gone from the web anyway. I also hope to include some team documentation showing the team personnel and timetables for a race weekend which for me adds to the detail.

Naturally I think the images are great, some even amazing ;-). When finished I expect the book to be around 380-400 pages. It's 13" x 11" in hardback, but due to the large number of pages, I cannot get it printed with super heavyweight paper.

Just posting this in case some of you a interested in getting a copy of this, hopefully, collectible item.
Cheers
Steve :-)

Hi Steve

Is this the "Reborn" book or is this a different book? If same quality as the "Reborn" book, it is definately worth getting :thumbsup Will it be pictures only, or also the full story in writing?

Interested :wink

It just saddens me that this team was probably the best shot at having a modern GT40 in the 50th anniversary repeat of Le Mans. Sadly, it was not to be because nature intervenes.

im in....please put me down for 1 copy

Just for clarity, "Reborn" documented the Matech story at Le Mans. This book covers the GT1 World Championship season in 2010. Ten circuits including Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi, Sao Paulo in Brazil and San Luis in Argentina. Some spectacular locations and some incredible images. I'm searching for an interesting title for it at the moment ;-)

Quality-wise, well they are the same high quality images, printed in a hardbound volume. But due to the number of pages, it is not possible to use super heavyweight paper for printing on. When I've finished creating it, I'll get one copy made to check the paper quality and if it's not good enough I may split the season into 2 books in order to reduce the page numbers for each book so that I can get the higher quality paper....but that just ramps up the costs even further. A 400 page book will be expensive to print.

As for content, I've included factory images when the cars were being assembled for the very first time, plus the photoshoot of the lady drivers. There is also the championship launch in Paris when the car was made orange for just one day. Pre-season testing at Ascari Race Resort in Spain and then onto Circuit Algarve in Portugal. I'm trying to include everything I have from the GT1 season, including the wreckage of Natacha's car in Abu Dhabi. I'm also hoping to put in anything interesting from behind the scenes.

Information-wise, I have all the pre- and post-race press releases, plus all the drivers' quotes, and the detailed team timetable for each race. Some of it might be boring, but it will give an insight to the workings of the team and how time critical everything is...after all, the race will quite happily start without us if we're not ready ;-)

So far, I'm really pleased with the book. Just need to get my head down and finish it now. I'll put up a few screen prints over the weekend so that you can get a feel for the layout and stuff. At the moment, it looks good on a 30" monitor, but I think it will look out of this world on a 13" x 11" book especially when an image spans both pages.

Pricing - it won't be cheap.

Regards
Steve

Im in also for a copy

I'm in for a copy.

One for me to please!

Hello Steve,

Great to see this project coming to fruition! I need 3 copies please. Two for thumbing through in Denver and Anchorage and one to put away for posterity!

Any chance you'd consider putting the images on a DVD to go with?

And my vote for the title is " Ford GT the Legend Returns " The first GT 40's were originally called Ford GT's also.. :wink
