Passed this officer several miles away coming out to a C&C show in Denver this fall. He eye balled us pretty good going by. About an hour later we were checking out all the other cars and over the PA I hear "Will the owner of the Red GT please head to your car." Most eyes in the parking lot turned as I made way towards my car wondering what was going on. As I walked up the officer asked if it was my car to which I said yes. He ask if I had been coming out Parker Rd earlier and I said yes. At that point he started going on about how much he loved these cars and had noticed it sitting at the show and wanted to check it out lol. I was like whew! He radioed a few other officers who came by to see it. He ask is it loud and if I'd start it. Totally cool and a complete car nut.

Let's see your encounter and hear your stories.

I too have found many LEO are actually car guys/gals.

After the completion of our GT we decided to take it out for a quick spin around the block just just to make sure she was happy :).

Turns out she was! We made a few passes up and down the street, of course this was on a Saturday and we're in a very industrial neighborhood so there really weren't a lot of people around.

Unfortunately it turned out that some of our neighbor's weren't as impressed with the bright orange GT and they decided the local PD might want to have a discussion with us. As we were standing around the car celebrating a victorious build and getting more excited to take the car to New Zealand a cop car pulled in to the parking lot. The officer walked up and said "Huh, so this is STILLEN? I've read about you guys for years in the magazine but I've never been able to stop by." We showed him around the car, showed him around the shop and as he left we heard him say something into his radio along the lines of "Checked out that noise disturbance and we're all clear."

Definitely a cool cop!:thumbsup

You hafta remember there are a whole BUNCH of people out there who'd bellyache if you hung 'em with a new rope. So, it should come as no surprise that they'll ALSO bellyache just to have something to do - as 'seems to be the case here...depending, of course, on just how fast you were going...:skep :lol

Hey Rick, that top looks really great.

Hey Rick, that top looks really great.

Thanks Frank! Kip had it ready just in time for the Bash! It matches the side scoops perfectly! :biggrin

My FIRST test drive in a GT was a Heritage that had the FFRP headers and pipes. She was LOUD!!! The LEO heard us from 4 blocks away, we managed to get back into the lot before he caught up to us, and then, after giving us the gears, proceeded to check out the car and wanted to hear it fired up. Really cool guy. But I thought "Dang, haven't even bought it and already I got a ticket!!!". :biggrin

I have been stopped three times, none of which resulted in a ticket.
The first time was the first day i drove it.They just wanted to check if it was insured and if i had a seat belt on. He really just wanted to get a close look at the car, even took pictures with his phone. The second time was by the state patrol on I-80. I was enroute to a dinner gathering with a bunch of mustangs we were horseing around switching lanes takeing pictures ect, when he switched the lights on everone else kept going.
When he came up to the car he said "Dam I was hopeing you would run"
He checked the car out asked the usuall questions and said drive careful and left. The third time was by a motorcycle cop. He was hideing under a bridge in front of our football stadium watching another street when i went over the top after just leaving from a stop light. I was aggressively going through the gears and he could here me but couldn't see me.I was not speeding. He cought up with me about two miles later in an area with shoulder construction and hit the lights and siren, i had no where to pull off so i slowed to about 45 and drove another mile with him right on my tail, i thought he was going to really be pissed, when i finally had a place to pull off
i quickly apologized for not pulling over sooner, the drop off would have wrecked this car, he said I know but That's not why i stoped you, I was under the bridge and it sounded like you were going pretty fast, then he looked the car over and even asked to see the engine. All three were really cool cops.

Some of these sound the same.:lol

I was on the way to work and stopped at Starbucks for some of that 4 buck coffee. While I was fixing it up the way I like I noticed several City LEO's in the corner checking out the car thru the window and talking about it. I slid up to them and asked as seriously as I could "WANT TO RACE?". They all laughed and it was on. How fast have you had it? (trick question) easy answer. 177.7 mph at the Texas Mile!! Haha didn't get me there. How does it handle. It is a race car, and very well at Texas World Speedway. Ha, got past that one also. Can we call our Sargeant, he is a Ford Nut and the GT is his screen saver. Please do! ( I am thinking how this can never be bad to know all these guys.) 1 1/2 hours late to work and light the tires up when I leave Starbucks. On a request from the Sargeant! Safely of Course. Now they know where I work and stop by ever so often just to talk!! I have a waiting list for rides. "Can you say get out of jail free card". Stopped other times, No Tickets yet. KNOCK ON WOOD!!!!:willy

Great stories you guys !!! Wow my 300th post !

A few years back I was heading north on the 405 fwy towards Malibu, doing about 75+ mph, late for a FGT get-together at Woobooses. I noticed a CHP a few hundred yards in front and he was definitely slowing down.:frown I asked Mrs SteveA what she thought the posted speed was and she said 70mph so I slowed to 70, as the officer keep slowing down I passed a sign marked 65, so I slowed to 65. As the officer kept slowing I recalled a few construction zone signs some miles back (however no construction being done) and thought "damn those zones are always 55 mph" and slowed to 55. The CHP was still slowing and for some stupid reason I thought if I keep slowing all would be just OK!:rolleyes Well, I pass him doing about 50 mph in the fast lane and he had to be doing less than 45 in the middle lane. He hugs my rt rear for about mile, I'm feeling like a complete moron doing 50 in the fast lane, Mrs SteveA is starting in on me about my soon to be new insurance rates and would like the officer to just light me up and put me out of my misery when he comes on the loud speaker and proclaims "I know the car will go faster than that, I just wanted to get a good look, speed up or I'll have to give you a ticket for going so slow" and starts laughing at me.:bored

I was in my Boss 302 when coming home one night, going through the gears right before my exit and changing lanes at the same time as I find a LEO with lights on behind me:eek I pull over and he walks over and tells me to keep the car running then walks around the car. now the car is obnoxiously loud, and choppy with a big cam, and as he is walking around the car I tell him that I was sorry and that I normally dont drive like that its just that right before I get home I like to open her up a little to make sure she is running alright. He takes one look at me and another at the car, and say, "sound like shes running damn good". he just wanted to see the car and hear it idling for a bit. then he let me go with a verbal warning

Bad Cop No Doughnut!

Most cops are nice guys. There a few that are not & a few that are women. Here I am with one of the nice ones.
