Thought double or triple this were made....over 9yrs.

Why the -50% depreciation given same production as GTs?

If Ford had priced the GT at $450,000, it would probably have taken them 9 years to sell them all too and there would be substantial depreciation. The FGT was/is a great deal and as they are getting destroyed at a rapid pace, far more LPs exist today than GTs.

The Gallardo base ($165K @ 2005) was very close to ours, and with <10,000 produced its depreciation is just as bad.

I used to buy the "they keep making them" depreciation excuse, but now I just think people like em less.

In less than 5 years, all modern Gallardos and Murcis will become outdated in the looks department and will depreciate even faster. I used to salivate thinking of a Countach. Today its a has been just like many of the Ferraris. The GT has stood the test of time.

I think BMWs depreciate even faster than Lambos, but a large part of that depreciation is when the free maintenance and warranty expires.

BMW's are not exotics. They are a transportation vehicles, with a few exceptions.

The LP670-4 Superveloce is a fantastic car but they won't hold their value either. There will be another "SV" in the new model line and those will drop like a rock too. Even the Scuderia has dropped like a rock, another really great car. It's a bummer, and it's not like you're going to lose $50,000, but hundreds of thousands of dollars on all these models. Hard to swallow.

I agree with that which Chip shared and then add IMO if the Ford GT had been sold alongside the Ferrari fetching $250K then I suspect that today the gals would be in the in mid to upper $150K range which is exactly where they are.

The gals were a huge value in fact by most standards severely underpriced when presented by Ford and the price placed them where there was no like competition, a price that allowed some folks to financially stretch to own one and for others to simply snatch them up.

A significant discussed change today versus when the gals were presented for sale is the cost for parts which are getting very close to and in some casesd passed those for Ferrari and Lamborghini. This fact IMO will also contribute to the stability of their value as well as the increased value in time.

My view too. The GT, fortunately for us, is an impeccable and timeless design. There are some Lambos and Ferraris (Muira, 250SWB etc) that have similar traits, but not many from the modern era.

How many of you have sold a GT to buy a Lambo or Ferrari?

I know of one person.

Yep. And other manufacturers have had the opportunity. Just look at what Ferrari could have done with the "California". Granted making less "Californias" and making a better looking retro design would have made them $450,000 and back to Chip's point.

i did not know that Lambo was ending the murci......

what is the replacement?

LP 700!
http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/04/preliminary-lamborghini-lp700-4-specs-leak-out/

If the FerrariChat tipster knows what's what, the new Lambo will be called LP700-4. Power will be sourced from a 6.5-liter V12 good for around 700 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque, mated to a seven-speed gearbox that is supposedly able to fire off shifts in just 50 milliseconds. It will take under three seconds to reach 62 miles per hour and the estimated top speed is somewhere around 217 mph. The super-light carbon fiber body will feature an F1-style rear suspension and overall weight will be reduced by about 505 pounds compared to the current Murc.

Boy I see a lot of Ferrari Styling cues there, both past and present.

I know of one person.

I don't care to know who. I'd like to know why?

Don't know for sure, but he probably prefers other his exotics and the sound and feeling of higher revving cars, vs. the grunt and sound of the FGT.

He has a stable of very nice cars.

that is wild :eek with ~ 700 crank Horsepower my speedo read 217 mph when i gps'd 212 mph :cool

i bet this Lambo's speedo will be off even further than a GT's speedo...... but hey at least my speedo worx :willy
