Isn't the defogger on the clamshell glass and not the rear bulkhead glass. I say try
a solvent first like prepsol or adhesive remover, etc. If that doesn't work than low abrasive BonAmi or specific glass posish would be next.

Speaking of the defogger. Never used it and don't ever think I will. The engine heat defogs faster and is on all the time while driving.

Anyone ever used it?

Personally, I like wetting it down and using a single edge razor blade. Make sure the rest of the window is clean first so you don't scratch anything else.

We used Rain-X defogger on the New Zealand Rally. That stuff was awesome. Also the Rain-X rain repelant stuff. We had to re-apply the rain repelant because the windshield wipers wiped it off after a few days but it worked very well. The defogger was a god-send. Whiling waiting between stages some of the other cars would fog up and our car always had clear windows and was always ready to run.

I have used both Rain-x products. The de-fogger is great. The rain-x product for exterior use I have mixed feelings about. If apply well to a clean windshield, all of the water nicely flys off the windshield at speeds above about 40 mph. In stop and go traffic when you may need to use the wipers, Rain-X may cause the wiper blades to grab and make noises on certain cars. Keeping the windows clean with an even coat of Rain-X and new wiper blades seem to minimize the problems, but not on all cars.

Last January I used it to de-ice the clam shell "engine viewing port". Worked very good. I now carry a small ice scraper in the boot.
