I need date from those who have, or have personal and specific knowledge about, the installation procedure for the Ida exhaust.

Specifically, does the clamshell have to be removed?

Do the motor mounts have to be loosened?

Thank you in advance,

I ordered the IDA for mine and the Ford dealer said they will install since it is a cat back system....but this is the first I have heard about the clam shell not closing or am I misunderstanding the comment about "hopeing the clam shell closes like butta"

What has been tricky from the start?

Bob Ida is a friend of a friend. I would like to use his exhaust if I can coordinate the times during which to have the install performed.

Oh...I see. Well, of all the trials and tribulations of my GT...the clamshell has spared me. It is a problem I have not had. I imagine it is very annoying.

Then again, if I could, I would likely ride around with the clamshell open...arguably the coolest site of the GT.

Ida exhaust arrived today

My Ford dealership owner called today to report my Ida exhaust just arrived. It will be installed next week along with a clear shield, Accufab manifold, inlet stiffner & the Ford trans cooler. I will post photos afterwards along with my AAR.

Ed,

I'd love to see the pics and please let us know what you think of the sound and if you have any heat improvement.

KO Supply:

I think he was saying that he has a clamshell problem, not that it was caused by the Ida system.

kosupply,

doc's right. Several owners, my self included, have been concerned about how much force is required to close their clamshells. A owner on one of the related threads stated that their's closed "as smooth as budda". I've had mine adjusted and it's now almost "as smooth as budda"

I ordered the Ida exhaust yesterday. I figure it would make the wife happy. She keeps telling me I'm 50lbs North of my ideal weight. I spoke to Bob Ida last Thursday. He told me the stock muffler weighs in at just about 61 lbs. His is 11 lbs. The things I do to make her happy.....

Although Bob got his backorders all out last week, he's still waiting for some more material to arrive to start the next set of builds. Allegedly, I'm #2 in line.

I'm going to do the exhaust myself and plan to take plenty of pictures. I will post them on this forum for others. I'm also planning to remove the cats (temporarily) in order to fabricate up a jig to make some straight pipes. If no one offers cat replacement pipes soon, I'll have a local fabricator make some up.

Monk, there's a place down here near San Dimas that had installed a few of the Ida's on GT's. He charges $3200 for muffler with install. Let me know if you want the name.

GT nut in Nor Cal also owns a dealership

Monk - Dave Hellinge is the owner of Harrold Ford in Sacramento & had the first GT in the area that I know of. He has sold 3 so far & is a certified gear head & GT fanatic. He will not let anyone at his dealership drive a GT. He personally will drive your GT in & out the bays. He will test drive it & give it the TLC it deserves. He also gives all GT owners, regardless of where they bought their car, a discount on parts. I bought my GT from Dave because of this. Tell him I sent you.

Ed

Do you want to meet at the SAAC Mini-Nats at Sears Point aka Infineon on Sept 23 Saturday? We hope to have 10+ GTs there.

I'm up in the NW corner of CT, by Lime Rock, my favorite track. It's on the MA, CT, NY borders. Southern/mid NJ is quite a drive, thats why I was asking.
