I am really close to pulling trigger on Aventador

This has been a tough decision for me. I love the car but I am asking myself is it worth having that much money tied up in one car? I plan to enjoy this car since I don't my others. So too much money for a car I am going to put miles on?

Another is I don't like the perception these thing seem to cause. "Oh look, there is a rich asshole".

Thoughts?

You don't enjoy your GT's, SL, GTR, or Atom? First world problems?:)

My opinion is it is silly money to pay for a depreciating asset. Then again, other than Diablo's, I don't particularly like any modern Lamborghini, so I'm biased. Also the small little fact that I don't have a 1/2 mil to spend on a car:frown

I think you should buy one and give it to me as you seem to have issues with being able to enjoy yourself, I don't.

Are you a rich asshole? Is this post just an opportunity for you to boast? Does buying this car mean you will be neglecting more important things in your life?

Who cares what people think. Get a bright orange roadster and put a 1%er bumper sticker on it, if you have that kind of disposable income you've earned it. It's a badass flamethrowing ridiculous machine and I love it (although if I had that kind of dough I might be trying to figure out how to get one of the few P1s).

Life is short, and that is not a cliche. You asked.

You've got 2 GT's, and you don't drive either one? Drive one, keep one for "investment" if that's your goal. As far as the Aventador, I agree with Fenzo, F what others think, if you want it, can afford it and drive it...............do it. If you just want to look at it (like EP does with his cars), buy a good picture and put it on the wall. Invest the rest!!!

If you REALLY want it, get it but you have to be ok with steep depreciation--I know-- I own a 12C Spyder. Ihave seen 2 Aventators here--one last week. They are not my cup of tea--but they sure as hell get your attention.

News flash: whether you realize it or not, your FGT evokes the same reaction from the same people. So does owning a larger-than-'norma'l home...larger-than-'normal' diamond rings...owning Rolexes (Corums, Breguets, whatever)...owning a yacht, and on and on. If you buy/own/do anything that can be perceived by anyone as being a 'cut above' what most people can do/own/afford, you're going to run into that. It's unavoidable. 'Sad but true...

So, as others have directly or indirectly opined, why sweat what someone else may think? As long as it doesn't harm anyone else, do/buy/enjoy whatever you darned well please. Why allow others to dictate what those things may be? Nuts to that...

Lamborghinis can definitely evoke a different response than Ford GTs. I've gotten a million thumbs up in a GT. I've been flicked off in Ferrari, Lambo, etc. Unlikely to see a Ford GT in a rap video. Some people just hate flashy european cars. It happens. Certainly wouldn't make that play a role in deciding whether to buy one.

Are you a rich asshole?

Reminds me of this at 1:19-1:45:

Ahemmm...kindly allow me to expand on my prior statement:

"As long as it doesn't harm anyone else, do/buy/enjoy whatever you darned well please any blessed way you darned well choose."

A A-hole is someone that acts like one. I have never gotten anything but smiles and thumbs up from people. Cars are built to be driven. My children can do with them as they wish, when I'm gone. In the mean time I am enjoying them to the fullest!

Figure out a way to make the depreciation tax deductible, first! Then enjoy your opportunity....

If they depreciate so much, then why not get a used one?

If you want the car purchase it! I wouldn't care what anyone else thinks as long as your happy that's all that matters.

I just had a recent birthday and my new realization is "The ONLY good thing I have been able to recognize about getting old is I just don't give a crap anymore about what anyone else thinks!!!" Life is short, enjoy it!

I appreciate the responses and input. The GT does get a totally different response than a lambo. There is a general appreciation for the GT. I think cause its an American heritage and it says, "Ford" on it. The Gallardo turned people into idiots, good or bad. I cant imagine what a Aventador would do.

The big reason I am questioning it is I am pretty private with my toys. I am not a show off, I am just very passionate about cars like all of you. I even tint the hell out of my windows and keep them up while I am cruising in town so no one knows its me. Now keep in mind I live in a somewhat small town and am a business owner. So I have to be careful about things like that. But I can get out on the highway and really enjoy myself.

And if I do pull the trigger it will be a used one. I would not take that cold bath on a new one.

But you are all right. Life is absolutely short, especially when you are consumed with your work. I am 37 and its making me an old man pretty quick, lol.

I had the same dilemma when I bought the CGT. The ford gets everyones thumbs up for being american, original, etc. I worried the P car was too pretentious, and honestly the dealership does give off a "we are better than vibe" but less so than the ferrari dealership. But then I found so many porsche guys are REAL car guys. Real cool club. I cant speak for the lambo guys, dont know too many. In the end it doesnt matter. After I got the CGT I must say I have zero regrets. Sure, some people probably think I'm a prick, but the sound of a NA V10 at 8K drowns out a lot of background noise, enjoy it! And real cars guys get it, and IMO thats all the really matters, besides the wife being ok with it :) As for the depreciation, I feel ya, thats why I went CGT and FGT cause I couldnt swallow a six figure depreciation. But life is short, ultimately you can afford it, just have to ask yourself if its worth it, and whether it matters if you die with $100K-200K less than what you could have had. Cant take it with ya!
