Broken Bolts

CP- maybe you got the "Lucky" #813. Yep mine done broke. Jeff

Mine is 2005, #1456. No problems yet, but I keep checking them out of fear. I also aim to get to my local dealer and have them do the hardwire fix...eventually.

'05, #1297, June '05 build and I ain't scared.

'05 #1830 I'm scared!

Hey Mike, what month? I think the nuclear reactor light protects you from this little incident.

Sept. Frank - does the "aura" keep the bolts in? Is it a special Jay feature?

Have a Feb 06 build.
All OK to date.
Am having the GT Guy change/upgrade & saftey wire while in Dallas for peace of mind sake.
Tell then, its full on.
If they break, well they just break don't they.
I'm not gona worry about it.

Broke at midnight and left me stranded til 3.15am. Nice so-called "Ford Roadside Service". 05' 1243.

I discussed this before in anothe thread. I had a discussion with a representative from the Wixom plant. He knew immediately what I was talking about when i posed the question about the failures. Again it seems a problem with not heat treating the washers, therefore they compress. All 2005 were affected and some 2006 cars . They know the cutoff point since they realized the problem and fixed it (though it may not be consecutive #s on 06 cars since production is not always consecutively).. He stated to me if I gave him tmy serial # he could tell me. But since I have an 05 it was not necessary. I still believe as more failures occur there will eventually be a recall if the are reported. He sated there were not enough failures to that point to do so .

I posted this on the other thread started by Yogi, but in case you don't see it here it is again -

A few weeks ago to monitor the halfshaft gap to the housing, my mechanic made up two gauges out of aluminum that fit the gaps tightly (one for the left, one for the right hand side). Checking with the gauges I noticed the right hand side gap was increasing slightly. (you other owners may want to get your own gauges fabbed - only takes a few minutes)

As a result, I just had my bolts all replaced yesterday. The tech drilled the new ones and safety-wired them too. As it turns out, the car did have the black hardened washers on the inner connecting bolts. But better to be safe and not have to worry about it. It was all free anyway, because the tech is the head mechanic and he had read this forum so he agreed to do it as a safety issue. BTW, my car is an early '06 serial number 0724.

BTW, my technician found a few things were loose on the car on his inspection. He found one wheel was loose; he found some screws on a brake caliper were loose; and also he found the left rear axle bearing nut was also very loose!! So boys & girls - get all those parts inspected and re-torqued after you've put a few miles on them. Ford has apparently sent bulletins to their dealers about it just recently.

Again, many Thanks to this forum, and all the guys who pm'ed me about this. Without you I never would have known.

Has anyone seen these new bulletins? It would be helpful to see what else is on the "official" list.

new website

I think it is time to try a new website:
www.fordgtbrokenaxlesbolts.com . What do you think?

Uh Oh, Driveby has me scared now! Should have been late '05 and early '06, now he's talking just before my car in June.

I'm 06 #1160. From some of the break vs. ok serial numbers listed in this thread, looks like mine are the hardened washers.

I sure hope so. I'm like most here, can't believe Ford has moved to an immediate recall/repair.
