Horse of a Different Color

I am assuming that most buyers specifically bought the color (colors) of their choice.

Others may have purchased largely on availability.

I was curious as to how many would now prefer to have a different color than that which they ultimately purchased (this could apply to multiple GT owners as well).

Is there a color you would prefer rather than that which you bought.

Absolutely Not

I knew exactly what I wanted; silver with black stripes which meant M.Y. 2005 only which is exactly what I got. For me, it's a bold and classy color combination that beautifully accentuates the magnificent styling of this classic design. I do not believe I'll ever grow tired of this color.

I knew the colors that I did not want.

I know several colors that I preferred.

I shopped chiefly for availability of the car itself. I wound up with blue.

Over the ensuing weeks, the blue began to increasingly appeal to me; largely due to detailing it. I now prefer the color. Good outcome.

At this stage, the only color I wish I had more is the Heritage, but at the time I bought the GT, a Heritage was not among those being offered to me.

I got lucky and the deal on the closer car in the color I didnt want (2005 Red with white stripes) fell through so I bit the bullet and bought the exact one I wanted (2006 Solid Tungsten/no stripes) even though it was alot more money and further away. I dont regret it at all. I love the color and think that had I bought the one I was going to buy I would be a little dissappointed right now.

Go for the one that makes you happy even if it takes shipping it from afar. It will be worth the wait in the end. :wink

From the time I saw one of the original mock models with no rear bumper, GT-40 lettering on the side at a Ford new car show in 2001 white with blue stripes was my color for sure. Everything I drive is white, 2006 Ford King Ranch F-150 and 1086 AC Mark IV. Cool in the summer in Texas and very easy to keep spotless and clean. :thumbsup

Doc,

First of all, let me say I really do like all of the colors that were made available on the GT, as well as those few custom colors that have been painted by others.

A lot of the appeal that all colors seem to have on this car is due to the shape and design of the car itself; it is a timeless design which lends itself to many variations of color quite well.

The color of one’s car becomes a very personal and sometimes a rather emotional issue, somewhat like one’s preference in women [Redheads vs. Blondes or Brunets; Slim vs. Full Figured; Tall vs. Short].

As for the color of the GT in my barn, well it is exactly what I wanted and ultimately got. It is absolutely beautiful [in my opinion] and runs as good as it looks [which is quite well indeed].

So do I wish I had a different color?

Well, if I could afford to have one of every color, YES!!

But being that is not the case, I will continue with the one chosen and ENJOY THE RIDE!!

Life is kind of like driving a GT; can't see a darn thing in the rear view mirror.

Regards,

Fred

Fred:

That was extremely well stated...I like simile...or was that a metaphor...

I think that the Heritage (my preference) sends a different message than do the other colors. It says "Look out, this is a race car". The others say "heads up, this is an exotic." I believe that they have different impacts.

Independent of all the emotionality one attaches to justify an automobile purchase, the car is, in reality, extremely unique and unlike anything that exists. I cannot imagine an American car that will ever be its peer.

I got lucky.....

I've had two red Jaguars of differing hues and have a red Aston. I wanted the GT sooooo much - and got a red one!

As most of you know, the red ones have a veeery slightly modified engine making them a bit faster. Gierkinkys is almost as fast as mine.... :biggrin

Doc,
Some would argue that a simile is actually a specific type of metaphor.

Just got off the phone with Mrs. Spirit being I am 75 miles from her at the moment, otherwise I might have had the courage to confront her in a face to face mode.

She reassured me that in fact the Heritage is the fastest version [made for the North America market] just as she told me, but the Red was the fastest only in the European market version.

I feel much better now.

I was about to trade the Heritage in on a Red with White Stripes, or possible paint it Red with White Stripes so know one would know, but now I can keep the Heritage.

This marriage thing could get real expensive if it were with another woman.

Fred:

Correct again (the metaphor thing). I suspected (likely I am incorrect) that Texans thought metaphor is one less than "I met...uh...five."

In either case, there is unquestionably a cool factor to the Heritage.

I gather that many people immediately think that it is a race car brought to the streets. This is likely even more frequently seen in Texas where the armadillo is not infrequently mistaken as one's youngest child.

Where was I? Not here apparently. Oh yes, I recall now: I am never asked about the speed of my car...top end, 0-60, quarter mile, 0-100-0... I am asked if it handles well..."how do you like it" (I always assume they are talking about the car and not genitals), and some proffer: "bet that was expensive."

To the latter, I always respond: "Oh, was it ever. And I have no idea how I am going to pay for it. I bought it with my home equity line and am over-extended. I bet my credit score is like close to 4. I have no idea what I am going to do. It was an impulse buy and not good judgement. Have you ever done something like this? " Then I get to add: "why are you backing away?"

Alaways wanted White w/ Blue stripes and absolutely did not like the heritage.

Now, I love the Heritage and am considering a second one because of it. Loved seeing them in Detroit all retro'd out back to the true days with the gulf stickers, numbers, etc..... Partly because of your car Tex. Also second one might have to be a CAV replica out of South Africa... will see

And I always thought that folks in other parts of the country just couldn't spell METEOR correctly. WOW, do I feel like a bum redneck or what.

Tim,
Thank you for the complement on the car.
I knew you were truly a gentelman and possessed the insight to appreciate the esthetics of the Heritage version [retro and all] for waht it is.

I always wanted red/white and got a red/white. The yellow cars with no stripes I also find attrative.

By the way, the rest of you should know that Spirit is color blind. Almost any color looks like heritage to him. When I first met him , I aksed why he had a black bra on his car. He said it wasn't black and matched perfectly. His wife told me they were married for years before he knew she was a redhead. His Panoz is chrome and reflects any color it wants.

I also think a lot of you old guys have cataracts and see colors differently.

The REAL Reason the Heritage is FASTER

Dr. Frank,

Between you and Mrs. Spirit, I am beginning to feel like Rodney Dangerfield.

“Just Get No Respect”.:bored

Guess I need to re-up my subscription to Bony’s magazine one again.

Now what’s this “OLD GUY” stuff, you young whipper snappers need to have a little more respect for your elders. We're kinda like fine wine, just get better with age [at least that’s what I tell Mrs. Spirit].:wink

As for the color blind thing, that is definitely NOT TRUE, it is only a rumor, I am just PLAIN BLIND.:eek

Imagine running at speed, and some ‘OLD GUY” with only one eye right on your A$$.:willy I’ll bet you'll get the heck out of his way, if not you should!!:ack

And now, you have the real story as to why the Heritage GT is faster than the Red GT with White Stripes GT [at least in The Republic of Texas].:biggrin

No question about it.

Yellow with Black stripes is the best color. 89 billion bee's can't be wrong! Hey, that would make a great license plate for a yellow/black GT. "KILLER B"
