Help - nervous about how to tie down my GT in my new JimGlo Trailer???

Who has experience in the best way to tie down my new GT in my new JimGlo Trailer?

Scared and don’t want to make a mistake...

I have the record for the most miles trailered and number of loading cycles I believe. And I never trailer it personally. Pull it in the trailer slightly to the left, Having pulled in the mirrors, the passenger side is the tough side. Have a small hammer available for the tie down anchors which are sometimes hard to click and slide into place. One inside anchor on each side of the tires directly down from the edge of the tire, then with the rachet being anchored as far front for front tires, and behind car for the rear for ratchet handle clearance. Crank her down. You will have to lay down to reach passenger side tires, the JimGlos has great access on driver side after opening side door and removing wheel well. Driving out you can easily drive over the passenger side anchor latches if it is too difficult to access with car there, just get the ratchet mechanism clear to the side to back out. Easy as pie, takes 16.43 minutes.

Looking at JIMGLOS website they offer a recessed winch box.. this is great for the 05 and 06. Is there a means of securing a winch to the NFGT?
 
Yes there is a tow hook on the passenger side grill.

I think I'm going to despute who has the most amount of trailer miles..:biggrin

I've had round trips from Florida to Utah, Las Vegas and Atlanta.. there might be a bunch of naysayers but I do straps thru the wheels. never had an issue. just make sure you have the right padding between the straps and the wheel surface.

Over 30,000 miles towing the 06 GT this way also, never had an issue.

Brian...in my "days of towing" , I also always put the straps through the spokes of the wheels too.

Jimglo quoted to me a Ford GT hold down kit. Over Wheel baskets and floor pully systems. Excellent way.

Andy and Stormy are correct az well.

Just remember however you do it keep straps from rubbing or cutting.

Strap knowing race cars often have tires go down in the trailer so check your straps at every stop.

Like Andy I’ve tied down through the spokes and used tube socks with the toes cut out as sleeves to protect the wheels. My new FGT has travelled about 4,000 miles on five separate trips in two of my different trailers. I installed E-track in both and use over the tire tie-downd from Summit Racing with great success. The car has travelled safely and securely each trip.

Through the wheel is AOK, but If you do convert to 3 point over the wheel, you will look back and say, "why didnt I do this a long time ago??"... At least that is what I said to myself having done both ways...

I started out with through the wheel straps and have done it both ways as well. I'm more comfortable with the over the tire straps I use now. The straps don't touch any part of my cars except the tires.
