actually the first production Shermans where designed to run on "aviation grade" fuel (High test) to simplify the fuel supply chain. But also the Marine Corps used diesel tanks in the Pacific.

It was not until after WWII that the supply chain got nutz .....

That's a GAA Ford M4 Sherman tank engine. I got one in the garage! I believe I read it would run on 64 octane. Mine is mostly 1945 by the casting dates on it. It makes 550 hp at 2800 rpm and 1050 foot pounds of torque. Said to be 950 torque at idle. Its 1100 ci.
