GTvs. EVO

I actually want an Exige S, but honestly, I dont think I will fit. I heard people over 6' tall have clearance issues. Not to mention, I'm not too shabby around the waste.:biggrin
Does anyone own one here? If so, what are the size limitations of the driver?

The photo above is my car. Lotus 240R Cup. I'm 6'0", 220 lbs. I fit fine with a helmet on. It's a bitch to get in and out of, but once you're in it is fine. The seat can be lowered a tad more if needed. Way fun.

If you want something to toss around try one of these: :banana

Don't embarrass yourself in an econobox with a bling wing.:wink

I may actually go and try one on for size. I just hope I can get out of it, once I'm in it.:lol

Now..that is a car to talk about!! Great pics. Speaking of Lotai (plural?)...anyone heard new stuff on the Esprit remake?

I have been hearing this forever. On a really tight course a MG midget will beat a Corvette. A Mini will beat a Boss 302 "on a tight course". Hell, on a really tight course a Vespa will kick ass on all of them. Make it tighter still and I can beat a Ford GT on foot. The GT was patterned after a car designed to race and win at Le Mans. Take that ugly little lump and a GT to that venue and if the EVO comes out on top, I still wouldn't drive that turd.:ack

HEY, CHIP, TELL US HOW YOU REALLY FEEL!!!!!!!:rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl
Now THAT was funny!!!!!!!!!! :thumbsup :thumbsup :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

Could it be??

It obviously wasn't designed for sophisticates like yourself:wink
Slider,
Today I watched the video linked to this thread of the EVO chasing the Lambo around the track and holy batshit was that impressive. Am I that far out of it?!? Then I punched up the link to the Mitsubishi site and see it has a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Perhaps without the ridiculous rear spoiler.......no, it's still ugly. Just the same, that much performance for $36,000. I am now actually thinking about one for my daily 60 mile commute to work. Christ, next thing you know I'll be listening to 50cent and SnoopDog. A little white ugly 4 door that won't draw attention and runs like a split ass monkey. In 24 hours I've gone from no way to perhaps I could use that. :willy

Hummmmmmmmmmmmm ...I just watched the SAME video, Chip ... :eek

Now ... ASSUMING the Lambo pilot wasn't "sandbagging" to "back" J.C.'s premise ... I'm gunna hafta go with the comment I made a couple posts back ... we spent too much munny!!!!!!!!:shrug:willy :mad

But, DANG that thing is homely. I don't think Max Factor himself could put enough lipstick on that pig to hide that fact. It's "The Blob" with 4 wheels (1950's movie reference...).

Not one of Bony's girlfriends would "pose" with one either, me thinks...

I'm actually "stunned" by that video. Not gettin' around it.

It's been a rough several years for Mitsubishi. My friend with a Montero says that every time he visits the local dealer it looks like they are about to go under. I heard some Evo drivers joking about the very same thing at a driving event.

Personally, I don't think the Evo looks that terrible. I think it looks better than the Suburu WRX, it's primary competition.

But, I'd be more worried about the service and reliability of the Mitsu.

Note the that car is a UK version with 400 HP, US spec is only 286 HP. Maybe someone with more knowledge on this car can tell us what it would take to get it up to UK specs.

Fast for the money, but butt ugly! For the price it would make a good beater.

I've recently come back from a track day in an Evo - couple of weeks ago.

They're quick.

I can't add too much to the debate as the conclusions reached are correct - the Evo would beat a GT on a tight 2 mile twisty circuit. However it would be close as the GT eats it on the straight and can be pushed in the dry on long sweepers. The EVO has all wheel drive which is a major advantage over the tail happy GT.

It's a 'boy racers' car in the UK - a lot of fun. But not in the same league as the GT.

The Mitsu dealers watch the Evos closely for mods when there are warranty issues. Fyi

For the Sti and Evo there is a full bevy of high performance after market parts. Suspension, engine, drive train.

But, I'd be more worried about the service and reliability of the Mitsu.

AND YOU'D BE RIGHT TO BE WORRIED!:ack

The factory's attitude is: ANYTHING that goes wrong with the car is SOMEHOW because YOU did (or didn't) do "something". TOYOTA IS EVEN WORSE. ('Family's had experience with BOTH.)

From that standpoint, I wouldn't buy EITHER make.

Oh, you're so right, but, and I have to crack up saying this, being the father of two "boy racers" aged 8 and 10, sometimes kids know a thing or two I(we) don't(or perhaps we've forgoten:wink )

These so called "rice" cars have replaced the "Detroit Iron" of yesteryear and that's just the way it is. Relatively cheap and easy to tune and modify. At least that's the way it is here in SoCal and Socal is the new "Detroit".

Asian Marques are going to be a powerhouse of automotive performance and engineering. In some aspects, they already are.

Mistubishi actually searches online SCCA listings of events. If you have even autocrossed your car, your warranty is over. Happened to some guy who blew an engine. If you feel the urge, get the subaru. I live in a hilly and twisty hillside town, so the subaru was an option, but I went with a mustang as the subaru was just so damn ugly. I still wonder about the dirt roads on the other side of the mountain though....

As for fast american cars being slow in the turns, I still remember my first day on a road course in a Viper GTS (Texas World Speedway in college station). The instructor wanted to prove a point so he waited until I came down the straight and pulled out behind me. He was on my tail into the first turn, which then led into the tightest section of the track (the button hook), a 40-60 mph almost full circle. I lost his m3 there and never saw it again. Amazing what 335 tires can do. And race tires can do even more, and old tires will make your car super slow.

You are very right on the ricer replacing the ol Detroit muscle cars. Think about it.
When we were kids the muscle cars were hand me downs. Now many parents are handing the imports down to junior and he is modding them as we did.
Who knows what will happen next, but one thing I do know....I love the feel of those horses under the hood and the roar of the engine as you flatten the pedal to the metal.
These kids are now hearing a ldiffernet sound. The new ricers once moded are sounding more like a 2 cycle chain saw as they purr very nicely I might add.
Nothing we can do about it, It happenned and Detroit was asleep.

Besides who woulda thunk this post woulda gotten so many responses?
