Aside from the looks dept, the Evo and Sti are amazing bang for buck vehicles.

They are turbo charged, all wheel drive, weigh 3200 lbs, able to be modded up to 1000hp, can handle over 30 lbs of boost, can seat 5 people, and are priced in the low to mid 30's. The all wheel drive bias on both cars can be adjusted fore and aft. The car automatically adjust power to the wheel or wheels with the traction. With so much power, the awd really helps to get it to the road.

It is great fun to burn out on all 4 tires feel the car kinda crab left and right then dig in, then grab and go. My .02c

There are lots of these 'ricers' running the streets with 600+rwhp/awhp. The kids have turned to Japan to replace the 55 and 57 Chevys and pony cars that we had when were their age. These cars reserve respect. Many a Ferrari, Porsche, Vettes have been left in their dust.

Bony,

I agree with your assessment of what the kids are doing with these Japanese cars, and I applaud them for their efforts and passion.

However, do it with one that has a least a little bit of esthetic appeal.

Kinda like the kids wearing them “BAGGY PANTS” styles, it just doesn’t look right.

I realize that “Beauty Lies In The Eye Of The Beholder”, but there is more than just performance.

It’s the TOTAL PACKAGE that gets my vote.

9/10 times, the driver of the EVO is 20 Years old or younger. Yes, it is not pretty, but it performs. It can be modded to look half decent, but that is subjective. I almost bought one after a ride that changed my whole perspective on them. The "Adult" owner told me how he would destroy 900HP Vettes & 1000HP Vipers, both on street and especially a track. The only car he would get faster times in was his GT3 cup car. It pulled harder than anything I can recently remember, and it made me blind to the ugly traits of the car.
I think the STi looks better and has more of a mature look to it. Everytime I see an Evo, it reminds me of the Fast & Furious. The STi does not.
With that said, I have not dismissed the Evo yet, and I am still considering it, but leaning towards the STi.
Kendall, I will let you know when I am ready to pull the trigger. Thanks!

I agree with your comments, but only if you were talking about your pride and joy, or your only car. There is nothing wrong with having a true "ugly" performer. If you mod it tastefully, and do not rice it out, they can look half decent. It's a great car to take to the track, that way you can keep your GT from getting abused. Would anyone take one over a GT, I think not. Most people that buy these do not have the funds for a GT, so they have limited choices of cars with these performance numbers.

Rocman,

You are right, of course.

I am starting to sound like my Dad sounded when I was a youngster.

He would say:

"I know I have successfully achieved middle age.
The way I know this to be true is:
I don't like the way the kids now a days dress,
The music they listen to,
The style of clothes they wear,
The language they use,
Nor most anything else that seems to be part of their sub-culture.
But if I were their age;
I'd be right in there running with the best of them."

Depends on the track and mods done to both cars.
Here is our Evo with 450+ whp, 315-30-18s on all 4 corners:

I have an Sti, but I wish I would have gotten the Evo, it is much easier to mod.

The evo uses an iron block straight 4 that has been around for 10 years and many of the super mod bugs have already been worked out.

The sti is a flat four aluminum (similar ro a vw). If the cyliners get scored, or you want to put much hp into it requires replacing the aluminum cylinders with iron sleeves. It also has variable cam timing. Right now I'm have to change to 3rd cam, because the one I picked is not working with the arftermarket ecu. To change cams required r&r engie. On the evo changing cams is a snap, just pull off the valve covers and away you go. Much more speed density piggy backs available for Evo. My .02cs

In all respect and honesty this is really a stupid debate. I appreciate all cars, however bigger engine = more power/ potential. Hp- weight ratio is a big factor, but to say the evo, sti, supra ect... is a superior car to the Gt, Viper, Zo6, ect.. is a little dopey. There are a lot of factors to performance, a car that is turbo/supercharged can create lots of power in a lightweight, and cheap way. Weight, gearing, tire size/ compound, power bands, aerodynamics, heat displacement, and of course the driver all play a part of ability in a car/package. I have no doubt an evo can beat a Gt or Zo6 ,or any car for that matter. The same goes for the Gt and Zo6 Viper Mustang w/e. I feel the bar for quality, performance, and style should start and end at the factory. After all you can make any car better with the right amount of $. IF you gave me a stock Gt in a racing event vs a stock Evo, Sti, ect... I would take the Gt it's a FAR superior car period! I own a Mustang gt 4.7l little v-8 that is supercharged to 400 hp and I can take down a stock vette ,but you will never ever find me taking credit away from a car that can beat my car stock for stock. My car is less superior to the vette period. Give me some more $ and I can make it do what ever I want. Stop with the who is faster thing and enjoy the car for what it is. As for the Gt the history alone is enough for me to buy it. The evo didn't win le mans ;) Check out Joe's GtTT on youtube.com if you want to have a cock fight. ~ Rob

Ok..let's get to reality here. All this talk about 1000 HP Evo's. I know how much money it takes to put that car to 1000 hp...does anyone else? And the non-sense about eating up 1000HP Vipers...come on. You can mod a Viper to over 1500 wheel . The ONLY Ricer that can be modded to close to those #'s is a Supra. A total engine makeover to get the Evo to 1000HP. So what. Yes, it is a nice performing car stock. And yes...moderate mods can make it a good street burner. But it takes a whole lot of $$$ to make it something to talk about....and after that..it still looks butt ugly.

I think that the point is that these cars are very fun and quite competent for $ spent.

I don't think this discussion is disrespecting the Gt, just informing people who may not of ever heard of an evo or sti that these cars are out there for enjoyment should one wish to partake.

I think in "ugly dollars spent per HP"...it ranks at the very top of my list.

On a tight course.

On a tight road course, I think the STi could eat the GT alive.
I have been hearing this forever. On a really tight course a MG midget will beat a Corvette. A Mini will beat a Boss 302 "on a tight course". Hell, on a really tight course a Vespa will kick ass on all of them. Make it tighter still and I can beat a Ford GT on foot. The GT was patterned after a car designed to race and win at Le Mans. Take that ugly little lump and a GT to that venue and if the EVO comes out on top, I still wouldn't drive that turd.:ack

I think I am missing something here. NOBODY said that the evo, or any other car was superior to the GT. There really isn't a debate either. I wouldn't trade my GT for a whole fleet of them. All I said was that those cars can kick some serious butt when modded. There is a reason that they are tracked quite a bit.
We are all familiar with Joe's car, and with all due respect, it is a fast straight line car. It is not a track car at all.

I dont think they have HP #'s that high yet.
I completely understand what you are saying, but Vipers and Vettes with that kind of power usually have traction problems.
I have not seen this personally, but was told this by someone I trust.
Whether it's hogwash or not, who cares? Any one of us could have bought an Evo or STi in every color and mod them all to hell, and still would not feel as content as they do with a stock GT.
BUT, since I have a GT, it would not hurt much to get something to toss around.:biggrin

I actually want an Exige S, but honestly, I dont think I will fit. I heard people over 6' tall have clearance issues. Not to mention, I'm not too shabby around the waste.:biggrin
Does anyone own one here? If so, what are the size limitations of the driver?
