GT40 Eye Candy

They raised over $25,000 on Saturday. It was a privilege to be able to participate and contribute a little to that amount. Hats off to a lot of people that came out.

cool

Stupid Youtube put an ad in the video. Click on the right X on the ad to remove it. I'm going to try Vimeo soon...

No ad for me BTW.

Even the music......Totally love Golden Earring. :thumbsup

Awesome! It's looking like mine will arrive on Wednesday during the snow storm :( But Saturday afternoon is looking pretty good - weather should be OK back in the 60's. So let's plan on terrorizing the highways to Estes. Check your email and we'll find a route.

I LOVE this car. While watching the vid, I actually started smiling thinking about how much fun you were having!!! :-)

Something just didn't look quite right in that vid...and then it struck me: THERE WAS VIRTUALLY NO TRAFFIC ON THAT 4 LANE HIGHWAY!!! :eek Oooooooooooooooh, to be so blessed! :banana

(You really MUST be out in "Boondocks", Colo.!)

Thanks guys. That is a toll road E470 around Denver at 7:30am on a Sunday morning. It's about the only road, day of week, and time of day those conditions can be found anymore on the front range. Too many damn west coasters moving here!

Simply awesome!!!!!!!

Great number!

Thanks! Since this is THE FGT forum it would be in bad taste to shed negative light on the FGT. I had one. I really liked it. It didn't compare to this car... for me at least. This car shakes and rattles. The first time you strap in and hit the start button, you will question yourself. Your mom or wife could drive the FGT. Maybe not the 40. It's got a nasty factor that is not found in any modern supercar. It's not for everyone for sure. For me, it is perfect! That sound. Did I mention the sound? I could pull into a lot full of F cars, Lambos, and FGTs. Sorry, it's not even a competition. Please don't be insulted FGT owners. They are phenomenal cars and one of my favorites. For me, the 40 is the car I should have married the first time around. Thankfully, we found each other later in life :)

Luke,

FGT owners are not insulted as just about all of us, including me, enjoy seeing one of the 100 some odd originals on the track or the street. The SPF reproductions are cool too and very beautiful. I have driven a SPF GT40 on the street as well as on the track and while I agree that it's not even a competition, I think 90+% of the drivers that drove both would opt for the Ford GT. It is much harder to drive an SPF GT40 fast on the track and I admire the owners that do. I thought about buying a SPF GT40 but after driving them on 3 different occasions, I have shifted to desiring a 2nd FGT first, and then maybe a GT40 reproduction. When you say that you prefer the SPF GT40 because it shakes and rattles and is harder to drive, you are not shedding negative light on the Ford GT. I think of your GT40 like I would think of the P-51 Mustang. A vintage experience in a beautiful machine that is harder to pilot than a modern aircraft, with a vintage sound that can't be had in a new plane either. Both machines require an enthusiast owner that loves it for what it is and is willing to put up with a lot of idiosyncrasies. In the abstract, every pilot wants a P-51. In reality, most pilots who think they want one would not be able to handle the entire experience. For a dedicated few however, they are nirvana. That's my take on it.

Your red GT40 is incredibly beautiful and it certainly does sound amazing. I look forward to seeing it.

Very good analogy Chip. I was having a similar discussion with another member offline and shard with him the genesis of first buying the FGT and now the SPF. I looked at the SPF a few years back and was immediately struck by how the closer you got, the rougher the cars were. They certainly don't have anywhere near the fit and finish of the FGT. I quickly concluded at the time they were not for me and went on to pursue a beautiful FGT from Shelby. Upon taking delivery I was soon struck with just how perfect the FGT is. They drive like a dream and it was hard to find fault anywhere with them. The only gap for me was they sound like a sowing machine. I soon fitted mine with the FRP headers which helped but even with them, it just didn't quite have what I was after. After inquiring with Bill on going down the route that Mr Simms went and considering the cost and other ramifications of such extensive engine modifications, I decided to sit tight. To bring this long boring storing to a conclusion, without much forethought, an opportunity presented itself early this year and within a week of even thinking about it, my FGT was sold. I spent a lot of time afterwards regretting that decision and soon decided it had to be replaced. With a lot of reservations I purchased an SPF roller and sent it off to Olthoff for completion. The first drive was a little intimidating. This was not an FGT. I will say it is not the loud, smelly, hot, and other negative adjectives some have used to describe the car. It certainly requires more effort to drive and is a lot smaller car making ingress and egress more of a challenge for the overly rotund. With the stock silencers it in fact was quieter than my FGT with headers. I soon remedied that short coming by having Olthoff weld me up a set of megaphones which has now given me the desired audio emissions that I found missing with my FGT. Enough blathering... Both are fantastic cars in their own ways and I hopefully will someday find room and means to park another FGT beside the SPF. Cheers!

...and/or those who are older and arthritic. :biggrin

The GT40 will be more comparable to the Cobra in its rawness than a Ford GT.

We've got 7-8" of snow now and it's not supposed to warm up all that much the rest of the week. A weekend drive is looking less and less likely. I won't want to be taking it out with all the runoff and sand but we'll play it by ear.

Have you been out? I was reading they were not putting down mag chloride due to the warm surface temps. Did not look like the snow was sticking to the streets in Denver. I agree if they sand then it's over. Fingers crossed they didn't. It's suppose to be 60s by Sat so I'm still hoping for one last run.

PS 18' up here already. I'm going to have to fire up the machine and get a mile worth of driveway cleared by Sunday so I can trailer it up :)

I just got to work. We had 8" where I measured at the house but the top of the truck had more like 9-10. The heat from the ground melted a good amount of it but the cold steel top trapped it all. It started snowing about 6:00 last night and stuck to the truck for about 2 hours before it stuck to anything on the ground.

Roads were wet with slush at intersections. Lots of power outages - most of the street lights on the route were out.

No mag chloride but they don't use it much round here. Lots of sand, I suppose with salt, so I don't know what I'll do this weekend. I need to wind her up but might think twice about it. Maybe next weekend if the weather holds up.

Final drive of the year. Car is in the trailer and heading up the mountain this afternoon for hibernation. Already looking forward to next spring~

KOOL VID!!! 'Liked the editing that was done re: swapping cameras during the 'passing' segments!

(BTW, the photos and vids posted here aren't helping me at all with regard to my dilemma, Mike! :slap)

Sorry buddy lol. It's still the same shaking, rattling, loud, hot, car that is was last week :)
