Sounds like tuners have managed to get into the GT500's code so should I assume Ford is not trying to hard to lock tuners out?

It’s not about outsmarting the factory engineers, it’s about not being subject to the myriad tuning constraints they face.

BMW has gotten very aggressive with this as well with the "G" series of chassis.

Harley Davidson got threaded by the EPA several years ago too, and has become much more limited In What they will do to a new bike.
