Fuel Rail

Saturday I noticed the smell of gas. I couldn't remember if it was always there. I thought that it might be comming from the fill. This morning it was stronger and I traced it to the Fuel Rail( I didn't know that's what it is called until I took it to the local Dealer). A nice drip onto the engine(not a good thing). They ordered one and said they should have it this week.
Has anyone had this problem?
Bill(Shadowman), you didn't warn me that these require more service than my F430!

Other forum members have mentioned this before. Read these threads. Maybe I need to get that Safecraft system quickly.

We had this issue on our car, I believe it was the fuel pressure regulator O-ring.

ditto .... had to fix mine when we got back from the rally.

I read the other posts and someone said they put a clamp on the hose. The Dealer told me that the rubber is only a cover for the metal fuel line and the fittings can not be repaired, thus a new Rail is needed!!

JOEA2,

Clamp has been on for 1000 or so miles. Not a drop of fuel, nor any smell of gas. The fuel rail is one whole piece pg.304-04-4 in the workshop manual.

I am not sure if it is a metal piece covered with a rubber hose. Having said that, it is a very hard hose. Just to clarify, my leak was on the drivers side.

As these cars get older, I think we should get in the mode of, and figure on: "Any mechanical part can be repaired"

I've been restoring cars for way too many years than I should admit, but, in reality, any mechanical part can be replaced or repaired. The real concern, in my opinion, is the body parts. Eventually windsields, fenders, clamshell, doors, door skins, etc., will not be replacable. Will be salvage only.

With mass production cars, replacable or repo parts may be available for 20 or more years. With the GT, with it's limited production, who knows.

I was concerned about this issue happening to me at the wrong time, so I installed the engine bay fire system from SafeCraft. Seems like cheap insurance in case the rails leaked and then erupted...

The Dealer just called to say the car is ready. He said the install of the Fuel Rails was 2 1/2 hours. He got the Rails next day from Ford.
He says that anyone that put clamps on the hose(cover) should have them replaced under warrentee!

Joe,
Yes- I agree. Sooner or later that's the plan.
For safety reasons I carry an extinguiser, and marshmallows.

No hot dogs Manny?

No-- I'm watching my figure.

Franky - That was CHAD who had the Avatar with the hot dog.....

Had my passenger side fuel rail replaced about 2 weeks ago for the same leakage.

I was told that it was one piece which included both sides and the crossover?

Hi Joe

First of all I am glad that you are exercising her and I feel certain enjoying the process.

As for her needing a little TLC; not to worries because she will always require much more than the 430.

Have fun and be safe

All the best

Bill

When the rails are replaced, do they have to replace the injectors and seals?

I also had a leak at the passenger side fuel rail fitting. A hose clamp seemed to have solved it, so I also put one on the driver side fitting for good measure.

Very interesting that multiple cars had leaks several years ago, and then none seem to have been reported recently.
