The following is their info about VIN's

FGT VIN Decoder

A vehicle identification number, or VIN, can reveal a lot about a car: manufacturer, model, build date, plant of origin, body type, and even engine in many cases. But standardization wasn’t introduced to VINs globally until 1981, and early vehicles’ VINs were composed of nothing more than a serial number. Over time more information has been introduced to VINs, but what information is carried in a VIN is largely left to the discretion of the manufacturer.

Because of the variance in VIN structures prior to 1981, there are few comprehensive VIN decoders in use today for the majority of collector cars, and many decoders focus solely on a single brand or nameplate. In an effort to better understand all the information that is embedded in a vehicle’s VIN number, regardless of the year that vehicle was manufactured, Hagerty has developed a collector car VIN decoder that grows in coverage on a daily basis. Today Hagerty’s VIN decoder covers more than 22,100 vehicles from 1945 to present.

Hagerty’s collector car VIN decoder can be a valuable resource when buying a car because it indicates details about how a vehicle was originally constructed. Differences between a car’s original and current configuration can have a tremendous impact on value, and those differences should be disclosed by a seller when they are known. Utilize the Hagerty VIN Decoder to better understand cars you are considering buying, and see if you know the whole story

I checked the 2005 Standard, as the chart above seems to be for the 2006. It indicates that the 2005 in condition 1 has a value of 177k...but recent average selling prices seem to be quite a bit higher than what the charts indicate...

Your'e right, they do seem slightly below the performing market. But as with most things like this, when buyer's emotions get involved, science goes out the window..... if there ever was a science to value in the first place. I do I wish our insurance companies would get a little emotional though.

I'm by no means an expert, although today is the one year anniversary of my GT purchase, I don't' really see any difference in 2005 and 2006 asking prices. Selling prices are harder to determine especially on Ebay as sales are sometimes negotiate below asking price.

Those prices are not accurate at all. I would like to know where they get their data. The heritage prices are way out of wack. I (and many other dealers) would pay many many thousands over those listed prices to buy a heritage at wholesale, which would suggest to anyone that retail is much higher than that....

A Woman called Sandra West was buried in her Ferrari (a GTC or similar) some years ago, I think in San Antonio?

I agree. It does seem strange that their valuations are as low as they are, when many are being sold at much higher prices, which in my opinion, would be what the market value actually is. Both of my GT's were professionally evaluated for the insurance co. for much more than those values, and were accepted as well.

I thoroughly agree.

That being said, it's nice to know that our toys are appreciating in value, whereas the Ford GT's Supercar competition (Porsche Carrera GT, Mercedes SLS, etc..) have lost value. Basically, the market is just another 'objective' indicator that our cars are more desirable.

................and that can't be all bad.

This thread topic seems to come up often - who cares? Unless you're a dealer like Shelby, what difference does it make? Like Ron says, just drive it and enjoy it!

Ask what high mileage does to the price! Then ask what is considered high mileage. It seems to make a big difference on these cars. The big money is usually coming from people who want to buy them for collecting and investments. Not driving.

Actually, in the years subsequent to the last GT leaving a new car dealership, I’ve noticed that several GT’s have been sold by Forum members that also drove their cars.

I have noticed several interested buyers logging into this Forum asking questions about potential purchases of GT’s where price was a topic they inquired about.

I have noticed Forum members asking questions about insuring their vehicles and how to properly value them when obtaining a policy.

I have also noticed several Forum members inquiring here about how to properly value their vehicles when submitting an insurance claim after driving them and getting into an accident.

I assumed Forum members may be interested in what a recognized industry expert may say about an online tool developed by a recognized insurance leader dealing with vehicles such as the Ford GT.

I apologize if I offended anyone by posting this topic.

As a new owner ( two weeks) I was very interested in prices, and still am. Especially because I wanted a "high mileage" car to drive, not make it a garage queen. I did not want to pay a premium for fewer miles when I would put that mileage on in a year or two and did not mind some stone chips. It didn't hurt that the purchase price was significantly lower because of the mileage, either. As far as what "high mileage" means, it seems to be more than 9,000 miles. As a newby, I know few (very few) owners, but I know one GT owner who has 32,000 miles on his car, and have been told of others with many more. Finally, I haven't seen many high mileage cars for sale, not nearly as many as "low mileage" ones. I may be out of line, but suspect high mile cars are hard to find because their owners keep and drive them rather than store them as investments. I am interested in what you all think about this.

I for one am not offended. I am thankful that you posted this. I may not agree with the values based on what we see in the market, but it's always a good reference. Thanks for taking the time to research and post your findings!

It is interesting to have the information on our GT's. Nice to know that we are all in agreement on thier general value appreciation. Nice to have the conversation with the wife too that the values on the GT is going up unlike our Ferrari and Porsche. The real winners in my collection are c-1 and c-2 Vettes along with the 356 Cab along with the E-code 57 T-Bird.

But, as I have told others, the GT is the pinnacle of cars in my collection.

Herb, thanks for the post.
Not trying to be provocative here but as to why some get stressed out over a topic of what your car/home/boat may be worth is beyond me. If we can fill pages and pages of what color do you like best, what comments have been made about your car etc, what the current pricing trends are seems like a legit topic. Also I have driven my car exactly 5300 miles sense brand new, not sure if that is low, medium or high miles but is the exact amount I wanted to drive it. If I die tomorrow and the wife let's my replacement put the next 5000 miles on it I hope that he enjoys every aspect of ownership as much as I have.:thumbsup
