Hard to believe just two weeks ago we were tearing down the runway in Mojave. The day may have passed but the great feelings and times we had remain. To echo a lot of the particpants this was the best time I ever had at any car event ever. What we accomplished as a group of car owners was amazing. Look at these stats:
23 FGT drivers over 200, 24 total (only other 200mph car T-bird nascar open road cup car) :thumbsup:thumbsup
73 FGT passes 200 or over :eek
3 FGT entries did not make 200, 2 pulley cars and one stock.
5 different women drove FGT’s making 15 passes. Monica Carlson was tops at 231.1 and Summer Fries second at 209.6mph. Stephanie Sledd came ever so close to 200 at 198.6. Mary Ann Ward/Pye came in at 186.6 and 17 year old Jenny Pye impressed with a top mark of 179.9. Why couldn’t my parents have a car I could drive 179.9 at 17?? :lol
236 passes total for all cars
Three "new" supercars were there. Here are their top runs:
2010 Lambo Murci SV top run: 195.2
2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S top run: 192.2
2011 Ferrari 458 top run: 191.8
8 passes were made on the one mile course, those runs are highlighted in yellow on the results sheet. Interesting side note that the 458 ran a best mile of 181.1. At the last regular event there was a new 430 Scuderia and it ran a best of 177.6. Interesting performance comparison in real world driving.
Quick note on results, cars with multi drivers may not have all the runs assigned correctly, particularly the Bob Hedge group. If you notice a run assigned to the wrong driver feel free to let me know. All run times are 100% accurate, and all top runs for each driver are correct.
Informal GT 200MPH Speed Day Awards
Top Overall Run : Terry Carlson 238.6 :banana
Most runs total :Barry Levitan with 17 runs topping out at 195.1 :thumbsup
Most 200mph runs: Tom Fries with 9 200+mph passes :cool
The “OH MY GOD…..YES!!!!” Award goes to David Legge (200.0mph), and Craig Wright, (200.1mph) for entering the 200mph club on their last pass of the day by the slimmest of margins. :biggrin
Persistence/Respect award is a tie between Ed Sham and Barry Levitan. Ed made 15 passes topping out at 198.7 and Barry 17 passes topping out at 195.1. :bow :thumbsup We were all pulling for these men and even though they came up just short of 200 they gained the respect and admiration of the entire field. Drivers like them will get into the 200mph club soon.
I also learned that people really want on the list. You know the Ford GT Forum 200mph club list. One guy asked me why his run was not on the list. :confused I replied I don't know, do you have a Forum name?? Well yes, he replied, but I was BANNED. :willy To which I replied if you want on the list don't get banned. :bored :lol
Other than that it has been the end of a crazy busy time for me. Many people have asked if I would help set up another GT Speed Day. The short answer..... YES!!!
Not only do I think everyone had a great time, but the smaller entry field allowed you to basically run at will. Everyone who had done normal mile events said they would much rather pay more for a small field of cars so you could run to your hearts content with little waiting. We also have proven that big numbers can be run in Mojave despite the altitude. It was much hotter on the Sunday regular event than our day and Terry still set the Mojave Course record for cars at 226.4mph in the standing mile.
There are some changes I would make for when we do it again. First, since we were so well behaved and had no incidents (spinouts or off road adventures) and we have proven the 1.3 mile braking area works for big runs I will push to raise the roll in speed and perhaps even lengthen the course. I think both of these are possible as we showed ourselves to be a responsible group of high speed drivers.
Lots of people took advantage of free extra drivers. That is great, but made for a bit of a pain for registration. Future events will have one extra driver free, and an adminstration fee of $50 for every driver after 2. There will also be a $100 on site registration charge it you do not have your completed registration packet in before the event.
If enough people express interest on this thread or to me directly we will start trying to put down a date to do this again. Once a date is settled if you want on the list you will have to pay an immediate $600 deposit that is non-refundable unless we change the date or the event is canceled. Event will be ran like before, the final amount due as a balance will be determined by how many cars in the field. There will be no more than 30cars. This time I did let in a couple of late entries but next time you miss the registration close you miss the event. Late entries took up more of my time close to the event than I wanted to spend. Remember I am doing this to drive more than anything and to help out my fellow owners.
And with that I say thank you to all of the owners of all of the cars who participated. It was great to have some other new cars there (if only to remind us how great our GT's are :wink ) It was great to see the T-Bird guys out and definitely inspiring to watch the boy in the Hudson truck do his thing. :thumbsup People are what makes the event and we had some of the best in the world gathered at that airport.
Huge thanks also to MKM Racing for putting on a safe and fun event that will not be soon forgotten. They had a ball and told us they would run as many future events as we would want. Personally I am grateful to have such a great group of people to work with these events.
