Ford and Shelby announcing something today.

To be able to rent the original 1966 Shelby GT-350H, you had to have a competition license (SCCA or equivalent) - it was not available to the general public to rent.

Such has not been the case with the 2006 or the new 2016.

There were 936 GT-350H cars produced in 1966.

I have great respect for what Carrol Shelby accomplished, but with the mediocre post-title Mustangs being turned out by his company in the last 10 years, I wish Ford would quietly end the relationship on a high note or simply buy the rights to the company. I see no benefit to Ford in continuing the relationship. SAI offers no engineering expertise whatsoever and Ford has its own deep well of monikers from which to draw model designations going forward. Xcentic's cynicism, while perhaps expressed a little harshly, is shared by many.

Its as simple as popping out the button and removing the clip .

In 2006 we rented one of the Hertz cars in AZ took it to the drag strip and ran it all day and night. We had 4 drivers , turned off traction control and let some air out of the tires. We had it down to running consistent 13.7's in the 1/4 mile. That's not bad and is faster than most all the so called muscle cars of the 60's in stock form.

Yes but I own an 07 conv . Hertz so no need to press hard it was easy to take out.

And we would not have the all great story's of "rent a racers" coming back with evidence of where roll bars had been welded in for a weekend of racing. All part of the Shelby lore and legend :thumbsup

^^^ I rented 2 back then, there was a specific piece of paper you had to sign, where the agent looked at, and confirmed the Shelby specific parts were there when you left. These were confirmed again when you returned it. Several parts were also safety wired with lead seals even the stock engine. I didn't think it ended early, ran its course, just like other specialty.programs, like the more recent Penske mustangs.

There were urban legends of engines being swapped. I don't know if it was ever really proven. Soon after there was a wire with a lead seal woven through engine parts that would have to be cut if the engine were removed.
