yesterday i finished my "all day oil & tranny service" project. i really enjoyed it, but taking all of those underpanel fasteners was a real pain.

the only two parts that were a little challenging was the size of the oil filter housing cap and the size of the tranny drain plug. luckily i had a 36mm open end wrench from my specialty tools collected for working on my Porsches. then on the tranny drain plug, it was tricky to get a 32mm socket around the plug because there was very little space between the nut & surround housing. it is good that nut has a low torque on it.

i found out i overfilled the car with oil (about 1/2" above the top of the full line), so i'm going to figure out how to extract a bit without resorting to removing the bottom end again. i have a suction gun i use for tranny fluid -- i'm going to see if i can fit a very small diameter hose to it and go in via the oil dipstick.

has any one had much luck getting a quart out via the reservior tank like this?

i was able to extract a quart of oil from the reservoir tank using a small diameter hose connected to my tranny fluid pump. what a great tool to have !

I did the same thing yesterday. I always enjoy tinkering on the GT. I have even gotten used to the belly pans. It doesn't even phase me when I look 50+ screws that are going to come off. The smell of motor and transaxle oil kept my wife at bay too.

Do you need install any new copper washers or any sort of washer on the drain plugs?

It is not called for in the manual. One side is the filter which is a reusable metal screen and the other is a drain plug. When filling it back up I use a silicone tube and lodge one end in the fill hole with a clean shop towel to help hold it. Then I fill from the top of the engine bay. 4.5 quarts (+1 if you have the transaxle cooler).

How about a "Turkey Baster"?

How about a "Turkey Baster"?

Only if it says "Snap On" on the side :wink

.

A marine lower unit oil pump would probably do the trick:
