So Cal
Could a very minor rear fender bender (moving in reverse about 2 miles an hour, if your walking beside me we'd be at the same level) cost upward of $4K :eek.
The corner driver side rear fender paint is gone (just the crease side), nothing else is broken/bent on the outside, and the panel fitment is about 3-5 mm off relative to the other side. The shop is claiming a $2000 internal Aluminum bracket is bend an must be replaced, plus diss-assembly and re-assembly and fender paint ($4K-$5K). Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

This is a case where a picture could help neverthless the simple answer is yes.

Sadly sometimes the most minor of altercations carry a heavy repair bill. I do not know which bracket to which they speak however as an example the short rear bumper extension pieces are well over a $1000 each.

My only comment would be to confirm the damage and the associated cost and then to properly repair her because far too many of these gals (as I am being told) are being repaired in the fine tradition of a patch work quilt. In the case of these gal's beauty is not just skin deep.

All the best

Junior, you don't give a location, but Saleen in Troy, MI would be the ultimate expert. Make sure you're dealing with a bodyshop that knows how to deal with aluminum bodies (someplace that handles, say Jaguars, Astons, etc). It sounds like you might have bent the clamshell hinge bracket, quite a critical piece for rear panel alignment. Pictures would be good to see as Shadowman expressed.

I was so upset after the hit, all I can think about is getting the car repaired. Location is So. Cal, and the body shop is very reputable according to the dealer. Had I taken a picture, it is very likely that one would not be able to tell the car was hit. I'll try to post a picture of the internal AL bracket damage since the rear fender is dis-assembled now.

It's the AL bracket above the mufller area about 3-4 feet long in an upside down U-shape form. It doesn't even look bent, however the shop owner said it's best to replace it since if we try to re-align it and put it back, we won't know how it's going to allign until we put the fender back. I told him to get a new one. 3 days for the part to get here and 2-3 days to get the job done.

I backed into a curb and chipped the diffuser, that was about 2K I think.

That would be the halo bar and as I was told long ago by The GT Guys it is "critical"

Sounds like your gal is in good hands

I wish it was my fault, was parked way... way... away from the crowd, and when I came back I saw the paint on the crease driver rear fender looking wierd, so upon examination of the panel's fit I discovered I was hit. :mad

That really does make me mad.... hope you can get it fixed OK.

I just can't believe that someone would hit an obviously beautiful car and not leave their details.

Oh, GREAT!!!!!!!!:mad :bang

I know EXACTLY how you felt when you saw the car, junior. I've been "hit & run" 3 times over the years... and vandalized 4 times. That's the reason I'm paranoid now and the reason why I never park the car anywhere I can't keep a constant eye on it. Ever. For any reason. (And I'll wager you won't either from here out.)

The only "good thing"(?) about this damage is that it's no big deal as far as the EXTENT OF IT is concerned. The car wasn't really HURT. It'll be 100% like it was before when you get it back. You were lucky compared to the way these things usually go.

All H&R perps and vandals should be SHOT on the spot just on general principles. In fact, there ought to be a set bounty on 'em ($.02 a piece ought to provide enough incentive). :mad
