Looking to change the factory exhaust to something a little louder. Any suggestions?

If you're just looking for more rumble rather than performance, you could consider removing the muffler and replacing it with an X pipe, which is what mine has. I think there are 2-3 sources for X pipes. If I recall correctly (and I might have to correct this if someone says I've got something wrong) the wise source we all know around here told me this is the order of exhaust volume, quietest to loudest:

1. All stock (OEM exhaust manifolds, cats in place, and OEM muffler).
2. Replace the OEM muffler with the Ford Racing muffler.
3. Replace the OEM muffler with an X pipe ... which is mine. I was concerned it might be so loud it'd wake the neighbors, but def not. Perfect, for me. This setup retains the cats which provide the sound muffling which is still a significant amount.
4. Replace the cats with headers, keep the OEM muffler.
5. Replace the cats with headers, plus a Ford Racing muffler.
6. Replace the cats with headers, with an X pipe. This is the one referred to as a "20 minute car" cuz that's how long you can stand it!

Is your x pipe from Rich the GT Guy?

Thank you

Most of the guys making them stopped due to no market. With the rash of new owners, they seem to be coming back into demand. Good luck on finding one, but put up your request here and see who bites. The problem with x pipes is drone at around 2000 rpm. There are long threads here on the Forum discussing the merits of each. Search can be your friend.

Thank you for the information.

I don't feel as though my Accufab produces any drone, for what that subjective opinion is worth.

Options 5 and 6 as outlined above, are REALLY loud, I mean really loud. I remember being next to Ralphie years ago, and having to roll up my window. Deafening.

X pipe is usually enough for most folks. The Borla is a good option if the X too much (if you can find one).

Accufab is on our car.

I have a brand new H pipe available in stainless.

My first set of headers got finished yesterday and are going to a member here.

I have an "original" Heffner H-pipe and LOVE it!

So I can update the list above, where does the H pipe fall re loudness? Is it about the same as the X pipe but just a different tone?

Leave the cats on put on GT garage x pipe. Perfect sound. Your wife won’t even complain!

I will be installing a bumper delete kit and listing my standard GTG X pipe for sale.

Oh RIGHT forgot about that, be sure you are committed one way or the other, bumper delete or not. I got my bumper delete at rally 3. The infamous auction.

Gentlemen,

I used an Accufab X-pipe for several years. A super high quality piece and I liked it BUT the droan at 2100 RPM, about 75-80 MPH right where I normally cruise was maddening. As my hearing got worse due to old age I couldn't hear to have a conversation on a trip because of that so the X-pipe has been replaced with a Ford Racing Borla muffler. That works better for me but I don't think they're available anymore.

Sounds like that are several options available, but now confused on which one.
Does the X pipe, like what Rich at GTG sells, delete the rear bumper?

Xpipes come sized for bumper or bumper delete.

I echo Rocketman, leave cats and put on xpipe. All xpipes drone. My GTG drones at 2800rmp. Relatively easy to avoid and only really matters on long drives.

Be careful about removing cats. It limits sales to many states with emissions tests. If you remove them keep them

The ford racing muffler without the ford logo was still available from borla last I checked. I had one on my car. Pleasant v8 rumble at idle but not obnoxious driving at city speeds or on the highway
