Double Bin Mount

How about making a plastic form using one of those 3D printers and then cover the plastic in Carbon Fiber or paint? Seems much cheaper, faster and lighter. Also easier to trim for a fit.

I believe it needs to be 'strong' as structurally vital for dash stability

Wouldn't wrapping the plastic in carbon fiber make it strong? Propaganda says carbon fiber is stronger than steel. The NFGT body is predominately carbon fiber making it stiff enough to reduce frame weight for racing.

I just got my quote back for making them in billet alum. With all the fixtures, scanning, programming etc. Its going to be $4500 a piece. But then they will be as strong as a factory one.. I was originally going to make them out of fiberglass and carbon and price them around 2500-3500. But its a complicated piece to do that way. I could have a foundry also cast them but that will take a bunch of work, machining etc and time consuming. These I can have done in about 8 weeks.

I have to do a run of ten of them.

How about just mounting a remote unit in the trunk in front just like is done in rear trunks instead of redesigning the dash. Seems a lot more economical.

Everyone:

I think I have finally got this worked out but will need some time to put things in motion. I have been able to secure everything for the double din and should be receiving everything in the next couple of weeks. Once we get our hands on all of it I will be back in touch.

Thanks,

Mark,

I trust that you may have under control. I have some contacts at a major aerospace University that may be able to assist with the scanning and conversion to a solid model if needed. Ping me if I can help.

Scott:

We can always work something out. Everything is supposed to ship to me this weekend so I expect to have it all within a week of Sunday I think. Then we will get through it, and see what its going to take to get a few done. Hopefully it wont be that long but I will for sure keep everyone posted.
