Do I need any special tools to change the supercharger pulley?

8-10 drops, I'm not sure I'd bother to replace it.

Bill, I'm really not concerned about the amount of oil I lost, I agree it's inconsequential. However, considering the sediment that is floating around in the old oil I think at the very least it will make me sleep better at night knowing it has been replaced :biggrin

Wait to you see how much that costs you for a quart.

$23

It's not the amount lost. Even if all of it was saved, there is the issue of the sediment. Any time parts mesh together, they wear. The greatest wear occurs when the parts are new. As they wear in, less material is lost.

When you think how fast the gears are turning in the super charger, and how critical the oil quality and quantity is to the super charger longevity, I'd much rather have fresh, uncontaminated oil.

Maybe I'm anal about it, but every new car I've ever owned, had an oil and filter change by the time they hit 1200 miles.

Just my 5 cents (price went up from 2 cents, we're talking GTs here)

Pulley replacement question

Team Jeff,

Great job with your documentation of the pulley replacement.

I am doing mine this week and have a couple questions.

It appears that you tilted your S/C to get the belt off, is that right? I would rather not take the pan off, although I will have the rear pan off to replace the cat back.

Are there any gasket, oil or sealant issues with the removal of the S/C itself, I understand the snout issues, but do I need a gasket for the S/C itself?

If anyone can chime in on this, I would appreciate it.

Tony

..

Since I was quoted earlier on this tread,

there are many that know alot about these cars, but I don't think anyone knows more, or is willing to help as much as: ""Shadowman"", that was my experience when doing my pulley swap/install, thanks S!!!!!

That's great, hopefully he can let me know if there is a gasket, etc. under the supercharger that I need to be concerned about.

I have the part numbers for the snout oil and sealant already.

There's a metal gasket that is completely re-useable. Make sure you follow the proper torque sequence (2-stages) to bolt the SC back down. PM me if you need a .pdf of this instruction.

Tony,

No need to remove the pan. All can easily be done while the car is in the garage resting on its wheels.

With help from your favorite assistant you can unbolt the supercharger and tilt it forward out from under the belt. Have a zip-ty ready to hold the belt in place so it does not come off any of the pulleys below. It is somewhat of a delicate process so be prepared (protection for the firewall esp.) and take your time. It really is neat to see the inner workings of the supercharger :thumbsup
