Hello:

Would like to purchase and install a Diablosport Mafia (mass air flow calibrator) and was wondering which is the correct part #? I know many GT owners have installed them.

Here is a link to the website http://www.diablosport.com/index.php?module=htmlpages&func=display&pid=4

Cheers

You weren't positive on the part #...hence the reason for this thread. I just wanted to make sure that I order the correct one.

After all I will be purchasing a pulley & tune from you. :thumbsup

Right on man !

Jay, will you have the Pully/tune done before we meet up this spring/summer? Do you know what octane tunes you'll be getting?

Yes I plan to have a pulley/tune done by this summer.

Best octane in my small town is 94. But that is only at one gas station and I don't know how long they intend to supply it. Other than that, 91 is the only other available. So I am thinking of installing a Snow Performance methanol injection system.

A methanol injection system will provide me with a reliable octane rating. I definitely want to be over 91 to ensure that I have no problems with detination.

As far as octane rating, I honestly don't know. Snow Performance website suggests 116 is achievable. :biggrin

I can build a variety of octane based calibrations for you Jason. You won't be limited at all.

:eek 116 I'd be worried about detonation too!

I think the 94 octane (Mohawk/husky??) is ethanol blended, and the 91 everywhere else is not. I'm using the non-ethanol blended stuff. As far as I recall, most ethanol blends contains 95-97 percent of the energy of "pure" gasoline, so you end up with about the same energy with the 91 vs 94 numbers. I think so anyway. I don't really understand all this. Maybe you'll research it when you're deciding what tunes you're after and then you can give me the $0.50 answer I'm looking for! :thumbsup

I'll keep you posted with what tune I decide...first I need to complete the mods. :banana

How do you figure which setting to use on the Mafia for the tune you use?

You do the math on how much headroom you need based on Mafv Max then set the calibration up accordingly.

Plotting all of this?

Is there an existing plot, or a way to calculate the variance in potential power output of the FGT motor as octane varies? and/or as 'energy density' (what are the units here?) varies? As Tim C. heard over dinner last week, my OCD nature gives EP a good run for top OCD dog, so this is only hypothetical, but I have had the pulley/tune done, have access to 100 octane race gas nearby, a tuner, and just want to know how this works.
Shadowman, who did work on my car (and the only living human being who will ever be allowed to work on it :) ) advised that such a tune is not a good idea, but we never had time to discuss the trade-offs in depth.

The Mafia is very simply a multi position voltage clamp

The MAF operates in roughly a 0-5v range and the voltage as presented to the PCM is based on air flow as such when one increases the air flow at any given moment in time the voltage presented to the PCM increases. If the air flow produces a voltage greater than 5v as presented to the PCM prior to the maximum RPM/power point of the gal’s heart then the fuel system is no longer being adjusted but rather it is simply dumping the maximum that the system can allow.

Here is an example of what the Mafia does;

If your gal in OEM trim at a fixed point in time created 2.5v as presented to the PCM and then you install a smaller pulley or a Whipple now at that same point in time the voltage as created/presented to the PCM maybe 3.5v now through the use of the Mafia the voltage as seen by the PCM can be trimmed back to 2.5v hence the term from days gone past; a voltage clamp.
