R.I.P. Dan,

A life well lived.

A repost here on the Forum, A Tribute to Dan Gurney - The Celebration of the Edison/Ford Medal for Innovation - well worth the watch, even if you've already seen it.

DBK and I were lucky enough to attend the event held at the Henry Ford on October 29, 2014. On conclusion of the event, I found Dan wandering around, standing alone, staring at the Mark IV GT. After waiting an appropriate amount of time for him to re-connect with his old car, I approached him and asked him of he'd like to take it for a spin. Then, a huge grin came to his face and, holding back some tears, he replied with a resounding "You Bet!!" An iconic event, I will remember it always.

That old Mark IV has sat on the floor of the HF museum for many years, that evening it came back to life. I've always loved that car and revered it's history, the innovation, drivers and crew. When the latest 2018 Heritage GT was finally shown/announced at Pebble Beach, it took an already amazing car and the Design Team found a creative way to link the past to the present. So there will be 10-12 lucky owners, I certainly hope they appreciate the history/lineage, back to that 1967 GT.

one of the best for sure.

RIP Dan. What an innovator. Won in F1, Le Mans, Indy, Can Am, Trans Am, and NASCAR
Recent a friend of mine gave me a poster signed by Dan and AJ Foyt. Just framed it to hang in my garage.
Also, Intercity recently picked up a Trans Am that I sold. I crawled up into the top of the hauler and there were 2 AAR Indy Cars heading back to the Gurney shops in Cali. What a treat to see them up close. My condolences to the family.

One great man, we will miss you Dan, condolences to the family.

Sad news.

He was a pioneer in motorcycling as well as automobiles. When I was a kid I had this ad on my bedroom wall of Dan riding a Montesa. God speed Dan!
