damn cameras as everywhere today...


Unless we're dealing with UNDERAGE drinking here (and I'm not aware we are), and no one was injured or killed, and no public or private property was damaged in all this, and no one was arrested for drunk driving or whatever afterward, then what he did was undeniably stupid given his age and 'title', but not criminal. That's especially true if these 'kids'(?) were students at his college.

So, the question becomes: should he (or anyone else) lose their job as the result of doing something stupid ON THEIR OWN TIME?

Me thinks there'd be an AWFULLY LARGE number of 'peoplez' pounding the pavement if that were allowed to be the case... starting with Wash. D.C. and wurkin' on down the food chain.

A bigger problem, at least in my view, is where/how did the photo surface. Someone on that boat most likely posted the photo on MySpace or a like site and then BOOM instant scandal.

Once again, I may be thick here, but posting party photos on a website for all to see is not the smartest move out there. Is it really necessary to show the world every aspect of your life. :frown I have read that people hiring for jobs will look at these types of sites to try to get a profile of the type of behavior they can expect from a future employee. What you do with your own time should be your business, but once you post it on the net you just made it everyone's business. Respect yourself and keep the pics to yourself....or at least to friends you can trust.

That said, I am sure the guy who lost his job never thought those photos were going to get out. Just like Matt Leinart never thought that the photos of him doing beer bongs with those college girls would get out. Camera phones have changed the world. To me the issue of posting photos on the net without getting consent from the poeple in the pics should create liability issues for whomever puts it on the net.

I happen to be a big fan of personal privacy. :cheers
 
besides my industry,...the drinks business, I am on the BoD of Boy&Girls Club, Police Chief's Foundation, Rotary at District Level...

Nobody wants to be associated with someone that makes imprudent decisions.

We, unfortunately, have the same nanny-state philosophy over here in the UK - the media build them up and then knock them down.

Just today there's a 15 year old boy who has been 'kerb stomped' (where you repeatedly stamp on someone's head) lying in hospital with serious brain damage. Irreparable brain damage. The 5 youths involved are out on Police bail and are highly likely to receive a warning.

But woe betide anyone caught sharing a drink on camera - loss of job.

We have the priorities all wrong.

But, to use a phrase oft used here, I am, no doubt, preaching to the choir.

All I am saying is that there is something to be said for the concept of discretion. With this Myspace, Face book phenomena people are trying to "show" they have a life. If you have it, you don't have to flaunt it.

I would never think of having a "page" on one of those sites. The people I want to know things about me do, and the others don't. For example we all have Forum names that for the most part are not our own for anoymity. We may choose to share our names with someone via PM, but on a whole the site is a hassle free way to share car stories and interests. It is great.

I guess it just annoys me that people are so fascinated with other people's lives rather than living their own. As long as there were no laws broken...and I don't think there were in this case....I don't get the guy losing his job. You should be able to have fun still in this world.

He's got ot be a Democrat, where are all the ACLU, move on.org bloggers supporting his right to stay in office. Who was that loser Ward ....? from Boulder who stayed tenured for years after 9-11 before they pulled his plug! This guy caved to easily. He should have noted to the Board of Regents, that he was merely instructing this young coed on certain practical techniques for success in the business world!
