OK, I realize these are rare cars and the aftermarket parts for them are made in small quantities, but $3500 for basically a rear valence panel? Seriously? Am I missing the flux capacitor install step or something? :)

Anyone have a pre-painted yellow setup they want to sell?

Most of that cost is the shorten frame rails. If you are willing to cut your OEM rails the price is much less. I think 2 OEM rails cost more than $3500!

:lol :thumbsup

It's just another one of those "GT taxes", as we say around here!

Check the prices of tail and head lights for some thrills.

Once you get over the cost and see the result. You will have the nicest GT ass in town! I bet you won't be able to keep your eyes off it!
Go with the GT Guys bumper delete. It provides better cooling. Its also the one Camilo has on his cars

SSRob, I just finished the install of the CDC kit.....I think this one looks best and doubt cooling is really much of an issue, at least not for me, with a custom exhaust. The price does seem a bit crazy, even with the new frame rails, but it did come down a couple hundred recently when they decided to no longer include the exhaust bezel. But you do have to cut yours up such that it can't go back. Or, I guess you can still buy one for that same couple hundred......

You can save lots of money by chopping up your own frame rails. If you want someone to chop up an extra set of frame rails (which retail is about $1275 per side) it's gonna cost you.

I like both major bumper delete sets, but personally prefer the GT guys version for a more racy look. The CDC kit is more polished and OEM looking.

I guess I dont understand what the frame rails have to do with it.

You have to cut the frame rails down. Look where they attach to the bumper, sticks way out. Stormcat used to sell caps if you didn't want to bother and just leave the rails hanging out the back of the car. And I'm now told that they are actually closer to $1700 each. I just got the price off the Ford Parts list.

This is what it looked like:

It was Stormcat and Project321.

Brian did a nice job. IMHO looks best with shortened rails though

Eh, not so sure I want to go cutting on the car. I'm only putting things on it that I can remove and put it back to 100% stock. I haven't looked at that area of the car in much detail. I honestly thought the two rails the bumper attached to were bolted to something up inside the chassis and could just be unbolted and removed. So I'm still a bit confused...in the photo of the delete kit, what are the two top parts? Is that for re-attaching the stock bumper?

The unfortunate part about the stock frame rail bumper extensions is that they are a metric dimension that is not sourced by anyone (at least that I could find) in an aluminum tube so you have to weld a standard dimension tube to the proper size. If you could find that dimension in a tube it would be much easier and less costly, just some rivnuts and paint. Here's a pic of my stock extension with one of the extensions I made that didn't make the cut due to an ugly weld.:bored

The two top parts are the shortened frame rails. They are an integral part of the car. They designed the bumper to make it easy for people to modify and remove.

p.s, if you want, you can buy the entire assembly pictured above for $109,038.46 to get a more thorough understanding. :lol

Check out this link to the CDC install instructions and you can see the removal and replacement photos:

OK, with your pics and description I get it now...for the most part. So minus the bumper or delete bezel, what else attaches to these rails that make them an integral part of the chassis? That's why I didn't understand the $3500. I'm thinking OK, remove the bumper and rails and slap up a bezel. Does the bezel attach to these new rails?

Is anyone ready to slap me silly yet? LOL

There's some wiring harnesses and stuff attached to it. Imagine those two frame extensions missing, what's now the first items in the line of fire, and then imagine what happens when granny taps you at 5 mph.

I wont slap you silly, but once you do a "bumper delete" and someone hits you in the rear....even at 1-2 mph...you have big issues and repairs $$. I KNOW From experience that the stock bumpers DO protect the rear of your car in an impact situation.
