Beware: Totaled GT back on road

TEXAS GT

2006 Twin Turbo
Mark IV Lifetime
Le Mans 2010 Supporter
A Texas DPS officer I know recently told me about a wrecked GT that was being rebuilt at a "less than reputable" body shop near me. I asked him to get me the vin and with Quickdraws help this is what we found out:

2005 red with white stripes VIN # 1FAFP90S35Y400094 (A very early car)

Sold 11/29/05 at Freedom Ford in Clearwater Florida with 123 miles on it. I called them but they knew very little about the car since the last time it was in their dealership was in July of 2005. They didn't know it had been wrecked.

I pulled a Carfax report and sure enough it was reported as a total loss on 4/05/07 with 1027 miles on it. Lake Mary Florida is mentioned in the Carfax report but I can't tell if that is where it was wrecked. These reports leave something to be desired in my opinion.

The DPS officer has inspected the car and tells me it was hit at the rear passenger wheel area. The body shop that bought it has put it back together but he says the frame has been welded up and is still about an inch off. I'm not sure what he based that on but I'll take his word for it since this is what he does for a living. He is not impressed with the repair job or the shop that did it. He says repairs are complete and they are driving the car around. I haven't heard that it's for sale yet but I'll keep my ears open. I'd be very curious to see how much they want for it.

Now he tells me they also have a silver one in their shop. I'll see what I can find out about that one too.

Caveat Emptor!!

Yikes!:eek

at least it shows up on carfax, i know of someone repairing GT's for cash so that the repairs are off all the books.... bad show.

There are a few of those on this site.

Good Find Guy's...... Or Really bad one for a non knowing buyer...

I can't believe that with most of the so called truth being told on that add, The bid is a t $120K... That's just not right...

Everyone should be careful about what is being said on this thread. The seller might not be happy, even if, the info may be factual. What is defined to be "repaired correctly" is highly subjective. Any prospective buyer of a savage car would be well advised to have an expert throughly inspect the car for alignment issues, etc. This is tough to do on ebay!

Great advise, always applies to every post.

I own several race cars that have been badly crashed, repaired correctly. No secrets, part of the provenance.

Now a 'salvage tittle' on a road car is another issue all together. I would have listed that in red in the body of the description if the ebay system allows that... However, it is clearly and honestly shown. I have no issues other than that wth the seller's description... seems reasonable with great pictures.

RE: the eBay ad. Poor English. Poor spelling and I'm not looking at a GT40. If you can't get the ad right, what can you get right?

...ouch, Phil, the schools here in the Colony, are not what they used to be,...
of course neither is Jolly Olde England either. If you want to discount everything mispelled on Ebay, or for that matter on any forum, it's your choice.
I have yet to see any thread here without an error,.... especially if I have posted

True, but you have to say that if the seller states it's a GT40....

I can't spell to save my life, but my computer can. If I were selling an item that's the wrong side of $100K, I'd probably try and get the ad right, or at least stuff the text into Word and let that have a shot at it!

Sorry, pointless rant over. :biggrin

Nice work. We should have a dedicated thread for verified major crash damage GT's...

Even in the pictures I can see the HUGE gap on the passenger side just behind the side scoop and ahead of the rear wheel. Look at that picture and then the driver's side rear 3/4 shot and it's quite obvious. Sure, some variance is common in all of these cars, but after mulitple detailings of my baby I know the gap shouldn't be that big. Also, why would $8,000 in damage result in a salvage title on a $150,000 car?

Ad says "...all damages were sustained to right rear wheel and no body damage at all..."

Hmmm....

I'm glad someone else feels this way. When you're selling an item on Ebay, at least let MS Word verify the grammar/spelling. Now on a message board, I don't see the point in using word to correct things, as long as it's legible.

I'm a bit confused. If the car had $8000 in minor damage then why does it have a salvage title? I don't think a $25000 Toyota would be totaled for $8000 in total damage.:confused

The ad states: The upper suppercharger pully has been replaced. Dinner at 8? lol
As a licensed New York State adjuster, I can't see $8,000. worth of damages totalling any car, unless it was a Kia, which cost 12-14K brand new. Most of that ad seems to tell the truth, but it only seems. Knowing that the car is on car fax, tells us a different pict.
It would really help this Forum, and all the members, if someone can compile a list of all things important to these cars, like totalled, changes,etc,etc..
SAAC has been collecting information on Shelby Cars since the inception of that club. Today, as many of you know, that information is priceless.

Bony, that was very nice of you to admit to your grammar errors, proves that you are definetely human..lol (race cars? have any road racer for sale...buddy, pal, amigo?) lol

Looking forward to Indy...............

It is not confusing at all Steve. The insurance company thought that the damage was substantial enough to savage the car. The person buying it from savage found a way to repair it for only $8000. Maybe a little magic, or very, very, low cost of labor and materials.

It could be something else, but I won't speculate here.

There is also an issue with the fitment of right rear rocker panel and aero strip. The right rear defuser also looks askew.

Thanks for the replys.
(Just to provoke thought, sometimes I will ask a question I suspect I already know the asnwer to:thumbsup ).
