Bad Fuel Injectors

I just dropped my GT off at the dealer. I could see fuel along the passenger side fuel rail. I thought it may have been a bad weld on the fuel rail or just a loose connection, but the dealer said it was TWO faulty injectors.

Has anyone else had injector problems?

You're the first to report it.

One morning, while I was waiting for the motor to warm up, I noticed small drips from the passenger side fuel rail. It turns out it was one of the fittings/connections where the chrome rail itself meets the feed tube to the driver side. Luckily I happened to catch it at idle as it would be scary to think what would have happened under WOT; fuel spraying in the engine compartment under high pressure. I quickly grabbed a hose clamp and clamped the leak off. The problem is that to replace it you have to remove the entire supercharger, etc.. so you need to take it to a competent service department.

Thanks for the heads up. This leak was on the passenger side also. I wonder if it was misdiagnosed? Where along the rail did you notice the leak?

CRAP- looked at mine and theres a bit of old gummy fuel on the rail.
I will clean and see what the deal is. Thanks for the heads up.

I took some pic's., will post if I can figure out how to. Fubar, I also just noted yours is 1410, mine 1418, perhaps it is a bad batch of fuel rails/injectors. Mines on the drivers side.

Took me a while to post-- but here it is. I will put a clamp on fuel line and see what happens. If clamp is not the solution this looks like it could be a real pain. I have noticed some raised areas, like the start of rust. I wonder is the rail stainless or just plated?

Mine leaked on the other side, but I obviously inspected both sides closely. The drivers side had weld marks (so there is some distinction in that area)around that connection joint in your photo but it didn't look like it was oxidizing or even an unintentional look.

I would post some photo's of mine but it is still at the shop. The dealer said the parts would be here in 3 days and it would take about 1/2 a day to reassemble.

I just hope it is the injectors and not the fuel rail itself. I bet those rails are hard to come by.

I have an interesting update... the Ford dealer called me today and said Ford is having problems with these injectors.

What kind of problemas? Supply? Quality? Did they specify, or give you any other info.? My car seems to run ok. The injectors seem like they are doing their job. I have a feeling it is more of a problem at the line to rail point. I have not had the time to drive the car. Perhaps tomorrow.

The dealer didn't seem to have a problem getting the part. It will be in tomorrow, which is four days from drop-off. The service rep. just called to update me. He said that Ford claimed "they" were having problems with the injectors. I was not speaking to the shop manager (the person I usually deal with), it was simply a service rep and I'm not sure how informed he was.

I am inclined to agree with you about the leak. I think it is more likely to be at a connection point not the injector itself. The dealership did say that it was multiple injectors though.

I will update this thread when I pick the car up. It might be tomorrow, but I am setting my sights on Friday.

I suspect that tomorrow all will be grand again.

Over the years we have had issues with some of the external seals on various injectors weeping so even though it is a big deal and very frustrating hopefully this remains a fluke.

I look at the issues as presented by folks with the GT's and for a limited run hand built piece they have truly been very few.

Well, bad news on the injectors. Ford will not "release" them until October 30th. Which leads me to believe they are a new version (ie: a fix on the old injectors). So I won’t get my car until next week. The shop guy also said he had never seen an injector like the GT's. He noted it was unusual that they use a large rubber boot at the base rather than a small metal o-ring.

The shop guy said the he called GT Hotline and they knew about the problem.

The part number for the new injector is: 4G7Z-9F593-AA

I wonder if Bosch makes a replacement.

Uuuuugh; I am certain that you are frustrated.

Thank you for the heads up throughout the process.

Does anybody have the technical spec on teh fuel injectors?

fuel flow rating?
Ohms rating?

Just to update you guys, the dealership called and said the parts came in this morning and they had them installed already (Middlekauf Ford ftw).

Hopefully there wont be any complications.

4G7Z 9F593-AA this part number has been the same since the cars inception. I have not found a superseded PN yet but I am still checking into that.

FYI my injectors have been rock solid all the way up to its current power level.

Well, I picked up the car, got it home and smelled gas... back to the dealer.

I told them this:

Hey guys, I just wanted to close this thread with the final (I hope) story.

When I got it back to the dealer they decided to replace the fuel rails and the connecting hose (all of this is considered one part). The first fuel rail came in pretty quick (5 days) but it was bent. The second fuel rail came in about 4 days later and it had some ugly weld points on it but I told them to put it on anyway. It did seem to fix the problem. The dealership ordered a third fuel rail system to replace the one with the cosmetic issues. The third fuel rail system was not perfect either but it was a big improvement so I stuck with it.

It was quit an ordeal for a little leak around one of the hoses, that a .50 cent clamp would have fixed, but it’s done now. I am adding clamps to my new one for good measure.

Thank you for the update

I am glad that you and your gal are back together again.

All the best
