My dad is visiting from Wisconsin in San Diego right now. He was the project manager for TRW on the F-18 Hornet avionics systems back in the late 80's. He loves fast American made things.....

I took him for his first ride in a Ford GT today. He's 74, 6'6" and has two artificial hips but we got him in the car, barely!!

Anyway, it was like a dream. I am on the on ramp on I-15 in Rancho Bernardo in 2nd gear. No cars were coming in the first 4 lanes behind me. No cars for 1/2 mile in front of me.

The only car in sight??? A Yellow Corvette Z06 in the far left lane closing at about 85-90MPH. The Vette saw me, I saw him, my dad said "Oh Shit here we go!" and off we went! He felt the full brunt of 2nd and 3rd gear and the supercharger winding up behind his head. The Vette had no chance, he jumped the pedal but was probably in 5th or 6th gear. GAME OVER.

This alone was worthing buying the car. The smile on his face was priceless.

Great story. My dad was out last summer to Denver to visit. He's 79 and was the one got me interested in all things mechanical as a child. He wanted to go for a ride in the 650hp diesel. Similar story as we entered the on ramp to a deserted stretch of freeway. I started to roll into it and when the turbo lit it put him back in the seat hard. As I rolled out of it about a buck ten I looked over and he was visibly shaken. He murmered something about it feeling like taking off in a jet. I don't think he'd had that feeling in many years and I was happy to have been able to bring back a little spark of something he enjoyed as a young man. He has not seen the GT but has talked about it to many people back in his home town. I know he's very excited to see it this summer when they come out.

Great story Mherman2!

I had taken my Dad on a couple jaunts in the GT, but two weeks ago we were at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, running the "Roval" with Speed Ventures. To my surprise (because other organizations don't allow it) we were able to take passengers out so my Dad jumped in.
The Roval is the road race course located in the infield, as well as part of the Super speedway. Since the layout puts you onto the Super speedway track at the end of turn 4, and continues down the front straight and through banked turns one and two I'm able to hit 160 before slowing down for turn one.
Talk about a s*@t eating grin! He had a blast during the 20 minute session and got out just blown away as to the GT's handling, acceleration and braking capabilities (and that's with just yours truly behind the wheel!).
He's an old drag racer, but now understands why I love tracking the GT.

Great stories you guys, keep em coming ! My dad is 77 and spent his entire life in the automobile business and was an accomplished sports car racer in the 60's. I can wait to get my Silver car back from the GT Guys which should be in a couple weeks so I can take him for a ride and let him drive her if he wants.
