Anyone "ticketed" yet ...

This is something that we make for the Nissan/Infiniti sports car guys. It uses the factory tow hook hole and simply screws right in. It's basically a threaded aluminum shaft with a mounting bracket that you can attach the license plate to. There is a similar box on the front of the GT that we could use to mount this. How many people would be interested in this?

I think this is a good solution to use after you get the no front plate ticket. For everyday use I have some concerns about it reducing airflow to the radiators.

Is a front plate violation a fixit only ticket with a minimal fine, or is it more than that? Please cite the state when you answer.

Dazed and Confused...

Hey guys, I'm confused.....

I bought my car new from the dealer. Straight off the truck, thru PMI and I took off all the shipping tape. In the front compartment along with the trickel charger and car cover was a black injection molded plastic front license plate bracket. This was shipped by Ford in our cars most probably for states requiring a front tag.

Don't you guys have this??? Have any purchased your cars new from the dealer??

The plate carries the Ford P/N 4G7V-17A386-AB and >PP< and BJ8UA molded into the back of the bracket. I attempted to see how it could/would be affixed to the front of my car but do not have a clue. Must be some way though as it was shipped by the factory in the car for FGT use.

In fact, if you look at your car's window sticker under "Price Information" you should see a line item "Front License Plate Bracket.....NO CHARGE". Nice of them....

Luckily I am in a progressive (?) state which only requires a rear plate...

I had the exact same concerns about blocking the radiator - the state couldn't care less. In fact, I SPOKE DIRECTLY with the State Trooper (Washington State, by the way) who grants this state's supposedly available front plate "exemptions" about that very thing. His reply: "I'm not buyin' it." 'DIRECT QUOTE. (Why should HE care? 'Not HIM that'll pay for the repairs. 'Not the state either, God knows.)

If I remember right, it's $101 fine ...NOT $100!!! "$101"! After all, $101 sounds soooo much more legal, exact, & authoritative. :thumbsdow

Front Plate Solutions

I looked at the same plastic molded part for my car. I took it to my ford dealer who agreed it would be bad to drill holes in the front of my hood. He suggested drilling two holes in the sheet metal strips below and using two screws to attach. I did so last year and have no problems. I had it that way at the Indy 500 and checked with others on temperature during our slow escort to the track and back. I haven't had any temperature problems. The good news is you can drill, attach, and even remove and it is not noticable. Last year I took it off for a while and stuck it behind the passenger seat. I figured if i got pulled over I would use the overheating excuse but I would have the plate, screws and holes to prove it. Seems from my conversation at Indy I might be the only GT with front plates.

(1) Last year I took it off for a while and stuck it behind the passenger seat. I figured if i got pulled over I would use the overheating excuse but I would have the plate, screws and holes to prove it.

(2)Seems from my conversation at Indy I might be the only GT with front plates.

(1) If you get a decent "blue" he might go along with it. But, I wouldn't count on it too much.

(2) You'd be 100% correct. No matter how many pics I've see of GT's anywhere not a one of 'em is wearing a front 'plate.

If you go back through the old posts, there is one guy from, I think, the United Arab Immirates with his front plate mounted. I asked him how it was done, but never got a direct answer. Car is red/white. When I ordered my bra, I got the plate option. 2 snaps and a zipper. In case the law says something, I can put it on in a matter of seconds. Plate sits in the trunk, but since I haven't been stopped for anything yet, haven't needed it.

I believe you also had your plate attached to your car by Roush in the UK as did I. I removed mine when I brought by car to the US and you're correct that the plate is attached with tape to a custom made aluminum bracket fabricated by Roush which bolts to the car. It bolts in to locations which I believe already hold standard factory bolts for the splitter (but I'm not sure of this). The fabricated aluminum part is very high quality. Roush may be willing to sell these for anyone interested in this solution. If they won’t we could get some of these fabricated.

That wouldn't fly in this state. Neither does putting a photo copy of the plate in the passenger side of the windshield ... and a host of OTHER alternatives. 'All illegal.

This state's attitude really IS -you WILL drill holes in your car if that's what it takes.

Here's something to try. Find a judge thats a car nut. Take him for a drive then mention the drill and car angle. He'll freak... then ask him for an order giving you right to drive without a front tag. Anytime that you get pulled over hand a copy of the order to the cop. He'll crap himself and run. :biggrin

I just checked under my car and there ARE 'splitter attachment bolts one could use to attach a very w-i-d-e bracket "base" under there. There's only one bolt dead center under the 'chin'. So, any brkt would have to span 3 to be properly done ... one additional bolt to either side of the center one.

But, you ARE 100% correct, Rob. A brkt could be attached under there.

One "negative" to doing it that way is the resulting reduction in ground clearance and the possibility of shearing off or bending the attachment bolts upon impact with the pavement (and the subsequent damage THAT may cause) due to the fact the bolts wouldn't be recessed down inside the 'splitter anymore.

While THAT amount of clearance loss my seem like no big deal, had I had such a brkt on my car at the 'show I attended last wknd, I'D HAVE SCRAPED IT getting in and out of that venue. A buddy of mine (ya! I really do have a couple!:lol ) watched the clearance for me as I passed thru the entry way to the show area. THE CHIN ONLY CLEARED BY A WHEATIE FLAKE. So, there ARE times when even that small clearance loss WOULD matter. (Especially around HERE. Take my word for it. We have some speed bumps and intersection "dips" around here ... ah, forget it.)

Solution: Get the Greenies on the issue. Legislators won't listen to motorheads but they are quick to listen when tree huggers start screaming. In addition to saving 1/2 the cost when the license fee is collected, our one-plate states save 1/2 the expired plates going to the landfill. TN figured that out long ago and guickly killed the front plate. Plus our Blues never enforced it anyway. Call in the environmentalists and give them something constructive to do for a change!!!

I run dealer tags (family friend in the business) on all my cars. I got pulled over here in Texas for no front plate. The trooper just wanted to stop me. Anyway, he didn't even know that dealers get a free pass on that one. He had to radio in for clarification.

I still got the "no seatbelt" ticket.

WHEN I get ticketed (not "if"), I plan to march the tkt up the legal daisy chain until I DO find a judge in this lib infested state (if there IS one) who's familiar with the equal protection clause of that constitution thingie. You know, that piece of paper a buncha conservative loons wrote a couple hundirt years ago?

DEN we'll see what we'll see. LOGIC demands the tkt - and the front plate law - should be thrown out. But, then again, the courts should have ensured "O.J." was dead by now too... :shrug

a friend was visiting me a week ago. He gave me a ride and within a mile a cop pulled up and was yelling to slow down. My friend obviously saw him and slowed down before the radar got turned on. He knew it never got turned on cause the radar detector didn't even chirp. We were both shocked.
