I noticed KW now has a coilover system for the GT - http://www.stillen.com/product.asp?id=KWSCOV03&c=SU&year=2005&make=FORD&model=GT

Anyone installed them yet? Feedback/Comparison to the Penskes?

KW has had a coilover system for years. Had mine fitted about a year ago.

3 Way adjustable, I have it set firmer than std and obviously the ride height is infinitely variable too.

Ray,

I've never tried them but Matech uses them and they don't cut corners so they must be pretty good.

The KW that Matech is using doesn't look like the Varient 3 version that is sold for the FGT but a different model.

Looks like its their race setup called KW Competition 3A. From their online catalog at http://www.kw-suspension.com/pdf/kw_racing_catalog.pdf.

Doesn't look like KW springs though...wonder what those are. Looks wicked.

The KW set is a steel body shock. It would be sad to take off the stock Aluminum shock to install a carbon steel parts on an all aluminum car.

How about I bring a set of Penske's to VIR for a throw down against a set of KWs.

Back to back - same car - same driver-with a data loger?

Is Ron volunteering his services? I think the spring and shock setup will be more important than the difference between the products. I looked at the KW variant 3s and they are much harder to adjust then the Penskes. Also Alex has the more real life data on shock settings than KW possibly can. So out of the box I would suspect the Penskes to perform better on the track.

Agreed.

I ordered KW and hope to receive them next week. I do like that hydraulic lift system as well they propose for all those speed bumps we have. Anybody here who added those?

So you can raise the car up from within with the flip of a switch?
.

Yep. KW writes to raise it 45mm within 4-5 seconds until a speed of 80km/h. Just for the relief not to start swearing like hell when hitting another bump on the road I'd consider it.

Is the lift system available for the FGT? I don't see that option listed.

I'm on their b2b site now and it's called KW hydraulic lift system. I'm looking on their german site perhaps it's different in the states. Quit expensive 8109 euro = +- 10500 USD.

Maybe we should just slow down for the speed bumps. :bored

My buddies have the factory version on their Lambos. Probably cost that much on the Factory Sticker, but I gotta admit, there are times it's pretty cool. Still, a front splitter is WAY cheaper than the lift kit.......

We've fitted around 10 KW kits to GTs here in the UK. We choose KW because being European they offer us the best local support. We have never had an issue with any part of these kits. Some of our customers use them pretty hard too.
We have been asked about fitting the lift kit but I think the price (unsurprisingly) put the customer off...

Mountune, what version KW kits have you fitted? Any experience with their Competition series?

Martin Bartek from Matech has the lift kit installed on his GT. Very trick and the button looked OEM. The price for those of us in the USA is, unfortunately, not reasonable.

We've only ever fitted Varient 3 systems. The first was developed in 2005 by the Finnish importer of KW who was one of the lucky 101 to get an Official car from Ford. As I recall he ordered it plain white with no stripes and side stripes deleted as he wanted to paint it in Gulf colours (he had a tie up with the importer for Gulf Oils in Finland) and he did a fine job of it too....
