Congrats on the GT. is WiL Mart still up there serving frozen drinks?? My wife graduated from La Tech. The GT has to be the most exciting thing to happen in Ruston in a long long time! Lol. Enjoy the car and DRIVE IT.
Yes, Mike, Wil-Mart is still pumping out those frozen drinks. Any body that went to La Tech knows about Wil-Mart. When did your wife go there? And, yes, the new GT in town (Ruston) is the biggest news in town right now.
I don't know if you know the whole story about Wil-Mart, but for the sake of those that don't, I'll give a short story.
Wil-Mart is a liquor store that is called "The Oasis in the Woods" around here. My parents and I opened the store back in 1977. It is located about 5 miles down a country road. Prefect ride to take to get out of town and in the peace and quiet. We are the first ones to set up a line of 20 frozen drink machines and have all the crazy names you hear. Really, now this is no bulls**t. My mother was the one that came up with all these recipes. Drinking age in Louisiana at that time was 18. It is legal in Louisiana to walk into a liquor store and get a frozen drink and walk out with it. But don't drive drunk. There were times when you couldn't even get in the door from all the "Tech students" buying frozen drinks. At that time, we were using small frozen drink machines made in Italy. Because of the volume we were doing, we needed larger machines. And, of course, the news of what we were doing was spreading FAST.
I was not born into a wealthy family. Quite the contrary. I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth as they say. When I was born, my dad put a wrench in my hand and taught me how to use it. When I saw we needed larger capacity machines, I designed one and started building it. So, the beginning of Frosty Factory of America.
Move forward about 30 years. Now, we are shipping frozen drink machines pretty well all over the world. If you walk down Bourbon St. in New Orleans, you can see hundreds of them. If you go into a casino in Vegas, you see them. Football stadiums, baseball stadiums, race tracks, Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville, Fat Tuesdays, .......... And it all started at Wil-Mart, "The Oasis in the Woods" about 5 miles down a country road in Ruston, LA. I've been told many times I need to write a book, but I would rather be playing with my cars.
DBK, thank you. I am humbled.
So, go have yourself a frozen margarita and say you helped pay for a Ford GT. lol
