A little article about the Ford GT

Hello,

I joined this forum to share with you the love i have for the Ford GT.

You can see below an article I put together of a Ford GT Heritage Edition which I was fortunate enough to spend a day with.

http://www.drivenwithpassion.com/portfolio/ford-gt-heritage-gulf-a-lesson-in-history/

I am presently working on getting some more photo shoots with various other GTs in my area.

If any of you are close enough to Montreal or in the North-East states let me know if you would like a photo shoot and we could certainly work something out. On the same, note I am not limited to shooting GTs only.

Let me know what you think.

Thank you,

Nicely done. Great shots and appreciate the enthusiasm!

Very nice thanks for posting it here.

Drivenwith passion,

Nice writeup on the Heritage.

A bit sad with the commentary, “The car can seldom be seen on the road after regular fluid changes or for maintenance purposes, and does not attend any event or show.”

As you artfully point out the aesthetics of the GT are beautiful (nod here to Camilo who fought for our production shape) and people really appreciate seeing, touching and talking about any experiences they have with this wonderful car. I was out fueling mine up today (I do drive my car so I have more than 631 miles on her) and two guys asked if they could take some pictures. We then talked about the car for 30 minutes or so and they were very appreciative of me taking the time to open her up for them to ohhh and ahhhh. Happens all the time and I am happy to share my good fortune to own one of these beautiful Fords with others who can only dream.

One other comment; it is a bit confusing to use FPS (foot-pound-second) units to describe engine power and then to switch to another MKS system of units (meter-kilogram-second) to discuss speeds. And the reader does not really know this until after reading past the acceleration discussion and on into the paragraph on the GT’s terminal speed. I also believe the engine output of 550 hp is just that; at the engine, not the rear wheels. Reference Figure 2 power curve in SAE publication 2004-01-1257. Although, parenthetically, many owners get much more power to the tires through various engine modifications.

“The engine produces 550hp at 6500 rpm and generates 500 lb-ft of torque at 3750 rpm. The GT leaves the start line from 0-100 in 3.5 seconds. It can then make its way up to 200 in 7.4 and to 241 in 16.9 seconds. The top speed is limited to 330kph and the GT is said to run the quarter mile in 11.2 seconds.”

A nice piece of prose and well integrated with beautiful shots of the Heritage GT.

Nicely written. You sound like a true enthusiast.

You mention "Heritage Gulf" a few times. In the interest of accuracy, the optional paint job is called Heritage. There is no connection with Gulf.

Ironically, Ford was out of European endurance racing after 1967 when J.W. Automotive, sponsored by Gulf Oil, continued to independently campaign the GT40 and their own version called the Mirage. So, there is no Ford Motor Company heritage in the Gulf Oil livery, which might be better known on all the Porsches that followed the GT40 retirement in 1969.

We have Canadians here?

Hello everyone,

Thanks for the welcome and the positive feedback. It’s great to see such a nice reaction from people that own GTs.

Hopefully I will have more features to share with you all in the near future.

A bit sad with the commentary, “The car can seldom be seen on the road after regular fluid changes or for maintenance purposes, and does not attend any event or show.”

Unfortunately the driver is paraplegic and would have to get a special system custom made driving system for the GT to be able to even think about driving it. He's a car collector and goes around in them from time to time with his mechanic, but as he was telling me it's not the same as actually driving it. I think seeing these cars on the road is the most beautiful thing and for you to take the time to talk with others about it just shows your love for your vehicle. I'm sure if this owner could he would but in his current state it's not really a possibility.

I'll try to make the figures clearer in the next few days!

Thank you for the taking the time to write this. I will make the changes to make it as accurate as possible.

I am definitely interested, please contact me at [email protected] and we can set something up.

I would certainly want to shoot the cars you have listed and put together an article about them individually. Please email me at [email protected] so we can see together what would work best for you.

Thanks you again for all your responses.

I believe member 'one of 101' is a paraplegic and has customized his twin turbo GT to accommodate his disability. It can be done!

We have Canadians here?

Yep, but we don't say much.

What else do we need to say?

Eh?
