The proportions of the mk iv are a bit different than the 05/06...i think it would look better if the bottom white stripes were removed...in the end you would need to take some artistic free license to tweak the design a bit but I think you started well! Maybe instead of looking at a mk iv you should draw your inspiration from a mk ii

Make bottom stripe same as in front of wheel. Ditch the FORDGT.

Another variation. I don't love it, but think it's "OK". I'm using a free graphics editing program at home. At work I have Illustrator and Photochop and can usually make it look real-er, and can tweak the design better.
