Future GT Value.. A classic?

I know forward looking guesstimates are just that .. guesses. But being that this board seems to be one of the most informed and worldly as I have come across, I was wondering what you thought of the possibilities of having the GT value come full circle and end up actually appreciating in time.

It's extremely rare to even have talk of a new car being a "classic" or the thought of it actually ending up being worth more than it was bought for in the future. But I have to agree, if any modern car has a chance the GT would be it.

Best examplse is the 50's Mercedes Gullwing, Shelby cars of 60s, Daytona/Superbird or original Cobra.

All had some value blip (ie, dealer sawing of Superbird Wing to sell) but all came full circle.

All were essentially recreations of actual race cars (eg, LeMans, Trans-am, Daytona)

-the LeMans winning Mercedes SLR
-Production of 1400
-In 10, 25, 50yrs its ratched up from appreciation to multiples reaching a $ million.

Except for the GT which was born a classic and will remain so for ever more. Will that impact future value? It's anyone's guess.

i believe that in 30 years from now that i will take my GT to the barrett-jackson auto auction and sell if for $2 million. accounting for inflation that would be worth about $1.1 million in todays money. of course my car will be modified for racing but the great thing about all of this is > is that over the next 30 years my car will aquire 60,000 hard driven miles with a considerable amount of it on the race track. gotta luv it :bow :usa

As long as I have one, that's good enough for me.

They are actually selling for 140k pounds in Europe. Fri That's over $240k US.

Yes, after additional importer mark-up, modifications and VAT and taxes. Back that out and you come back to USA market prices.

Bony, exactly - currently you'll have to pay here about US$ 220-230.000 (€170.000-180.000) for a new GT, which includes shippment + import tax (10%) + VAT (Germany 19% :ack) plus EU modifications (~US$10.000) which is by the way, the lowest price since they start selling (grey) imported GT's over here (maybe also due to the development of exchange rate US$:€). Beginning of last year they sold for about €200.000 - 220.000 - the time when I bought it. But honestly, I don't care. To drive it in early 2006 was worth it :thumbsup

I am with you 100%, if the car goes up in value, so be it, if it doesn't I will still enjoy it.

For those folks looking for what the silly people will pay for a FGT, stay tuned as one goes accross the block at BARRETT JACKSON next week. It will be fun but will mean nothing in the real market.

It is and always will be worth what someone is willing to pay! Taking into account the heritage this particular vehicle possesses and the obvious fact that very soon a new GT will cease to exist the market can and probably will flatten out within 24 months and then sloooowwwlllyyy start to rise. No unrealistic visions here, it will take a long long time for it to become let's say an original Cobra or any limited production highly desired vehicle. Other determining factors would include how many are lost to accidents and the owners not turning them over very quickly like some have already. I like Syco's comments, he like most of us cherish the car so it is priceless to us. That's what makes anything worthy, one's desire to have and obtain it. Just my opinion...Dan

P.S. A quick comparison is the Viper. Albeit a limited production car yearly their are about 18,000 give or take for that figure is a guess built to date, and yet certain years, colors etc. are worth well over list price. An example is the 1998 GT2 white/blue stripes, they are worth approx. 100k which is well over the original price by about 20%. Vipers are still being built and last I heard the GT is not.:biggrin

Bony don't forget those silly people are part of this forum and we all know the earliest silly people paid silly money for the car. People who have unlimited resources are still part of the market so whether they pay silly money just because they can it is still part of the real market. If ten GT's went across the block and they all brought 225k it realistically wouldn't mean the car is worth 225k but it sure would increase the perception of value and that is part of the market. JMO.

I think it was about 10 years after the last Shelby was built that SAAC was formed by a bunch of enthusiasts. Do you think this Forum will eventually morph into the Ford GT Automobile Club? Like many members of this forum I seem to have an addiction to toys. Airplanes, boats, motorcycles, 4X4's, guns, guitars, and cars. All provide a hit of entertainment from time to time. I viewed my GT purchase this way but that's not how it went. I bought a car, but what I got was an accidental membership in this nationwide (worldwide) fraternity and some great friends. Not quite sure why this is the case with the GT but not the Glasair/Cirrus/Kirkham/Jeep/blah,blah,blah. A diverse, exclusive, and most interesting owner group. How about it DBK? FGTAC. Where's my full color glossy magazine?:biggrin
